Lost a ring or watch on Curaçao?

From Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel on the Banda Ariba side to Cas Abao, Porto Mari and the Kenepa coves on the Banda Abou side.

Yes, a ring, watch or set of keys lost on a Curaçao beach can be looked for. What decides it is how closely you can place the moment, down to the beach and whether you were on the sand or out with a mask.

Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewelry recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost on Curaçao.

Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.

Curaçao lost ring and jewelry recovery

Calm water on one coast, rough water on the other

Playa Porto Mari is a sandy bay on the west coast with clear, calm water and a double reef you can reach from the shore. Vaersenbaai, a natural bay, has a reef that is just as easy to reach from the beach, and the water at Caracasbaai is usually calm. The north coast is rough water, with waves crashing against the rocks and the limestone cliffs at the bokas, the natural coves along that side. The sand changes from beach to beach as well: soft and white at Blue Bay, coarse with pebbles at Caracasbaai, coarse and brown with tiny smooth pebbles at Playa Forti.

Curaçao beaches, from Caracasbaai to Westpunt

From Caracasbaai and Jan Thiel on the Banda Ariba side, through Willemstad, to Playa Forti in Westpunt on the Banda Abou side, these are the beaches and town streets where visitors spend their days.

Where on Curaçao it happened

Caracasbaai and Tugboat Beach

Coarse sand and pebbles, usually calm water and several small restaurants, and part of the underwater park, which draws snorkelers and divers. Tugboat Beach, a free beach at the end of Caracasbaai, rents out snorkels, and a sunken tug boat lies not far from the coast.

Jan Thiel Beach

Four restaurants sit on the beach at Jan Thiel, each with its own look, atmosphere and activities. Zanzibar and Zest are two of the beach areas, Zest a laid back one with a Mediterranean menu and easy access to the water.

Mambo Beach and Sea Aquarium Beach

Mambo Beach is white sand in front of a strip that combines shopping, dining and entertainment. Mambo Beach Boulevard, a two story strip with several beach areas and restaurants on both levels, is in the Bapor Kibra area, also called Sea Aquarium Beach. Cabana Beach and Mood Beach share an entrance here, and Hemingway Beach is a small beach that belongs to the Lion's Dive Beach Hotel. The Curaçao Sea Aquarium was built directly on the oceanfront with a healthy coral reef.

Willemstad, Punda and Otrobanda

Punda and Otrobanda, the two old districts of the capital, are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Punda's pedestrian-only streets are full of shops, cafes and terraces, and on foot you cross to Otrobanda over the Queen Emma pontoon bridge, known as the Swinging Old Lady, or take the ferry. Rif Fort Village, inside the old fort that guarded the entrance to St. Anna Bay, now has restaurants, bars and stores around a shaded courtyard.

Blue Bay

A shady beach just northwest of Willemstad, near the village of Sint Michiel, popular with local families and visitors for its soft white sand. The sea floor slopes gently from the beach, and there are lounge chairs, shade umbrellas, a bar and restaurant and a water sports center.

Kokomo Beach at Vaersenbaai

A natural bay at Vaersenbaai on the road to Bullenbaai, with a large covered restaurant, lounges and its own dive center. The reef off Vaersenbaai is an easy dive straight from the shore.

Cas Abao Beach

On the southwest coast, with white sand, palm trees, many gazebos for shade and reefs for snorkelers and scuba divers. A raft for sunbathing and playing is moored off the beach. The water suits swimmers of all ages.

Playa Porto Mari

A sandy bay on the private Porto Mari plantation estate on the west coast, near the village of Sint Willibrordus, with white coral sand, clear calm water and a double reef easily reached from the shore. A dive operator works from the beach, two nature trails start at the parking lot, and the resident pigs sometimes pay a visit.

Playa Kenepa Grandi and Kenepa Chiki

Playa Kenepa Grandi, or Groot Knip, is a free public beach on the west coast, about a 40 minute drive from downtown Willemstad, with soft white sand and clear turquoise water. Playa Kenepa Chiki, its little brother close by, is quieter and more peaceful. From the small cove at Playa Kenepa, which has shade and white sand, snorkelers and divers head out to a drop-off along the cliffs with gorgonians and small caves.

Playa Piskado and Playa Forti in Westpunt

Both are in the village of Westpunt. Playa Piskado, the Fisherman's Beach, has nets on the sand, small fishing boats pulled up on shore and frequent sea turtles offshore. Playa Forti has coarse brown sand, tiny smooth pebbles and a steep ramp and steps down to the water, almost no shade, and snack bars and a restaurant at the parking area above. The reef here can have occasional strong, unpredictable currents.

Questions about Curaçao

Snorkeling the double reef at Porto Mari cost me my wedding band.

Porto Mari is a sandy bay with clear, calm water, and its double reef is easy to reach straight from the beach. Tell us where you went in, whether you reached the first reef or carried on to the second.

Cas Abao has white sand, many gazebos for shade, a raft moored off the beach for sunbathing and playing, and reefs where people snorkel. Say whether the watch was on when you swam out, whether you climbed onto the raft, and which gazebo was yours.

Mambo Beach Boulevard is a two story strip with several beach areas and restaurants on the upper and beach levels, so the bar or restaurant nearest your loungers is the best landmark to give us. Say too whether you went into the water with the ring on, or only noticed it gone back on the sand.

There are four restaurants on Jan Thiel Beach, among them Zanzibar and Zest, so the name of the one you were at already narrows things down. Then tell us the last moment the keys were in your hand.

Blue Bay has soft white sand and a sea floor that slopes gently from the beach, which is why families like it. Tell us whether your lounge chairs were nearer the bar and restaurant or the water sports center, and whether the earring came off in the water or on the sand.

Kenepa Chiki is the quieter beach close to Kenepa Grandi, and from the small cove at Playa Kenepa snorkelers swim out to a drop-off along the cliffs. Say which beach it was and whether you stayed over the sand or swam toward the cliffs. If it went down off the drop-off, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.

Klein Curaçao is a small island off the coast, reached on day trips with dive operators and charter boats, with soft white sand, little shade, a lighthouse and shipwrecks. Say which boat you were on and whether the bracelet came off ashore, in the water or on board.

Daaibooi is a small bay close to town, with pergolas for shade, a snack bar and a small fishermen's cove, and people snorkel along its rocky ledge. Tell us if the frame is metal or plastic, since a plastic pair is found by eye or by a diver.
