Netherlands
Lost a ring on a beach in the Netherlands?
Surfers at the Pier in Scheveningen, the family beach at Zandvoort, wide sand below the dunes at De Koog, and city lakes around Amsterdam.
Something lost on a Dutch beach or at a swimming lake stands a far better chance when you can say where you were. On the North Sea coast a numbered beach post or the pavilion behind you does much of that; at a lake it is the jetty, the lawn or the strip of sand you lay on.
Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in the Netherlands. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach or lake, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.
The page is written for people who live here as well as visitors, from a summer evening at Gaasperplas to a week in a holiday home on Texel.
Long North Sea beaches, and city beaches on lakes inland
The Hague has 11 km of coastline, and each stretch has its own character: beach parties at Zwarte Pad, surfers near the harbour, families by the Pier and a quieter beach at Zuiderstrand. Zandvoort's beach alone runs 9 km, from Bloemendaal to Noordwijk. On Texel, only a line of dunes separates De Koog from a wide, open beach.
Inland, Amsterdam swims in lakes and on the Amstel. Gaasperplas, Diemerpark, Marineterrein and three areas on Nieuwe Meer are official swimming spots, while the Sloterplas beach is a place for picnics and volleyball.
What we take care of
One name in your WhatsApp
The person who answers your first message is the one who arranges the search and tells you how it went. You never have to tell the story twice.
The post number goes in the brief
The detectorist is handed your beach post number, pin and photos, and the search opens in front of the right pavilion rather than anywhere along the beach.
A frank view of the odds
A loss in the surf on a packed afternoon, or one nobody can tie to a post or pavilion, is a harder case. We say that plainly before anything is booked.
Worth sending
The beach or lake, the nearest beach post or pavilion, a map pin and a photo of the item. A photo of your towel spot with the dunes behind it helps as well.
Costs, then a decision
We explain the costs before any search is booked, and nothing is arranged until you agree.
Our Ring Finder Service Locations in Netherlands
From Zwarte Pad to De Koog, then the lakes around Amsterdam
The Netherlands has no area pages of its own on this site, so every beach and lake we cover is below: four coast cards, then four for Amsterdam and the country just outside it.
North Sea, then fresh water
Scheveningen, the Pier and Zwarte Pad
By the Kurhaus and the Pier is the liveliest stretch of the boulevard, with chips, ice cream and children's attractions. The Noordboulevard, to the right of the Pier, draws surfers for the waves the Pier gives. South of the Pier, the Middenboulevard and the Northern Harbour Head make up the surf beach, while Zwarte Pad is where most of the summer beach parties happen.
Zuiderstrand and Kijkduin, The Hague
Zuiderstrand lies directly behind the dunes and is known locally as the quiet beach, a good spot for water sports. Kijkduin is smaller in scale, and to its south the Sand Motor, an artificial peninsula, is where kite surfers ride.
Zandvoort
Zandvoort's beach is split into sections. The northern end is the sports beach, with room for kiting and surfing. The family beach is the central stretch from Badhuisplein, popular with people from Amsterdam because the railway station is close. The southern beach runs along the renovated promenade. With so many pavilions along it, the one you sat in front of is your best marker.
De Koog, Texel
De Koog is Texel's seaside resort, and you can walk straight from the village centre to the beach. The beaches are wide and vast, with pavilions, a kiosk hiring windbreaks and deck chairs, and room for beach football. Surfers gather at beach posts 19 and 17. Places to stay include holiday homes, chalets and a camp site in the dunes between the village and the beach.
Gaasperplas and Diemerpark, Amsterdam
Gaasperplas, an official swimming spot reached by Metro, has a wide beach and a spacious lawn for towels. Diemerpark is another official swimming spot, an urban beach with a slower pace. Say whether you were on sand, grass or in the water.
Sloterplas and Nieuwe Meer
Sloterpark in Nieuw-West has a large lake, the Sloterplas, with an urban beach where locals come for picnics, family outings and volleyball. Next to the Amsterdamse Bos, Nieuwe Meer has three official swimming areas, Westzijde, Noordoever and Nieuwe Meer, plus a beach and several coves along its edges, with SUPs and canoes passing.
Marineterrein and Park Somerlust
At Marineterrein, now an official swimming location, people jump from floating boardwalks and dry off on a large shaded lawn. Park Somerlust, on the southern bank of the Amstel, has a jetty to jump from into deep water and a big grassy lawn.
Het Twiske and Ouderkerkerplas
Het Twiske has swimming spots such as Kure-Jan Strand and Doesstrand, and canoes, rowing boats and sailboats for hire. Ouderkerkerplas, on the edge of Zuidoost, has sandy beaches and a shallow shoreline, and draws divers and experienced swimmers too.

Questions about the Netherlands
My wedding band came off on the family beach at Zandvoort. How do we explain where?
By the pavilion and the post rather than the beach name. Zandvoort's beach runs 9 km, and the family beach is the central stretch from Badhuisplein. Send a pin, the number of the nearest beach post if you saw it, what you could see from your towel, and a photo of the band.
Our car keys went missing on the beach by the Kurhaus and the Pier on a packed day. Is it worth trying?
It can be, once the ground is narrowed down. That is the liveliest stretch of the boulevard, so say which side of the Pier you were on and whether you went to the attractions or the Pier itself as well. A pin and a picture of the key ring are the rest.
An Oura ring came off during a surf lesson at De Koog on Texel. Does the beach post help?
Yes. Surfers at De Koog gather around beach posts 19 and 17, and the beach there is wide, so the post and whether it went on the sand or in the waves are the first two things to settle. If it went in the waves well out from the beach, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
A bracelet went missing at Gaasperplas while the children were playing. We were there all afternoon.
Then the place your things were is the best start. Gaasperplas has a wide beach and a spacious lawn, so say whether you spent the day on the sand or the grass, pin your towel, and send a photo of the bracelet and its clasp.
My ring came off when I jumped from the jetty at Park Somerlust. Is the water too deep?
The water off that jetty on the Amstel is deep, which makes it a harder case than a loss on the lawn behind. Send a pin on the jetty, say which side you jumped from, and tell us whether the ring could have gone on the grass before you jumped.
A phone slipped out of a pocket somewhere at Nieuwe Meer. Which part of the lake should we name?
The swimming area you used: Westzijde, Noordoever or Nieuwe Meer. The lake also has a beach and small coves along its edges, so if you sat in one of those, drop a pin on it and say when you last used the phone.
My watch came off while kite surfing off the Sand Motor near Kijkduin. What do you need?
Where you launched and where you came in, each as a pin. The Sand Motor is an artificial peninsula south of Kijkduin, and a watch lost on the sand there is a very different case from one lost on the water. We tell you which we think it is before anything is booked.

A beach post, a pavilion or a pin
Send a WhatsApp message saying what is missing and where you were, with the nearest beach post if you noticed one and a pin on the map. That is enough for us to start.
