Something lost on a Nassau or Paradise Island beach in the final hours of a trip can still be looked for after you have gone home. Two answers shape everything after that: was it on the sand or in the sea, and could you walk back to the place today? Put them near the top of your first message.

When the taxi or the ship is already waiting
Take two photos before you go. One from the spot where you had settled, looking at the water, and one looking back up the beach at whatever stands behind it: a resort, a beach shack, the old fort at Montagu. Then drop a pin on your phone map. Those are what we ask for first.
Nassau is on New Providence, and Paradise Island is a second island joined to it by a bridge across the harbor. Cable Beach and Cabbage Beach have resorts along them, while Junkanoo Beach and Arawak Cay sit by the cruise port and the Fish Fry, so start by telling us which side of the bridge you were on.

From the cruise port west to Cable Beach, and over the bridge
New Providence first, then Paradise Island.
Junkanoo Beach and the Western Esplanade
Junkanoo Beach, also known as the Western Esplanade, joins up with the beaches at Arawak Cay and Long Wharf, and it is the beach nearest the cruise ship port. Colorful shacks along the sand sell drinks and wares, and the Straw Market is within walking distance. On Saturdays Bahamians hold cookouts and fundraisers here, and something is nearly always going on.
Arawak Cay and the Fish Fry
The Fish Fry on Arawak Cay starts as a strip of casual sit-down restaurants and ends at the beach, where shacks cook barbecue. The beach sits right beside the Fish Fry and looks out on the cruise ships coming into port, the tugboats and a lighthouse near the shore. People towel off and walk over to eat, so say whether it went at the table or on the sand.
Cable Beach and Baha Mar
Cable Beach lies west of Nassau, lined with resorts, with a golf course, nightlife and water sports along it. The Baha Mar resort complex stands on Cable Beach. Saying you were on Cable Beach leaves a lot of sand; saying which resort's chairs you had leaves very little.
Goodman's Bay and Saunders Beach
Goodman's Bay is in western New Providence, not far from Baha Mar, with a small park just before the sand that suits children, joggers and people out exercising. There is curbside food as well. Saunders Beach lies east of Goodman's Bay, with white sand, and it fills up more on weekends and holidays because it is a favorite with locals.
Love Beach
Love Beach is on the north side of New Providence and has a different feel from the bustle of Cable Beach. Coral lies close by and people come here to snorkel, so it matters whether the loss happened on the sand or out over the coral.
Montagu Beach and Yamacraw Beach
Montagu Beach sits by historic Fort Montagu, east of downtown Nassau. It is one of the smaller beaches on New Providence, and locals use it for a lunch break or a picnic. Further out, Yamacraw Beach is at the eastern end of the island, reached along the eastern road, where the water stays shallow a long way out.
Jaws Beach and Bonefish Pond
Jaws Beach is at Clifton, on the western side of New Providence, with a coral reef just offshore full of fish. On the south shore, Bonefish Pond is a tidal mangrove wetland with a boardwalk. At low tide visitors step down into the water, and people kayak and snorkel through the mangroves, watching bonefish feed.
Cabbage Beach and Paradise Beach
Across the bridge, Cabbage Beach runs along Paradise Island, with resorts including Atlantis and The Ocean Club on it. People walk, swim and sunbathe there, go water-skiing, snorkeling and parasailing, and the waves can be big. Paradise Beach, also on Paradise Island, is a beach for snorkeling and time in the water as much as lying in the sun.

Shallow flats, bigger waves and coral
The water changes a lot between the east end, the north shore and Paradise Island.
Waist deep a long way out
The water at Yamacraw Beach stays around waist height far from the sand, and Arawak Beach on the southeast coast of Paradise Island has shallow water and powdery sand. Where the sea stays this shallow, a photo taken looking back at the beach from the water is worth sending.
Waves on Cabbage Beach
Cabbage Beach can have big waves as well as a long run of sand. If something went in the surf there, the resort straight in front of you when you came out of the water is the detail that helps most.
Sand first, then coral
Snorkeling over coral is part of a day at Love Beach and at Blue Lagoon Island, where you can snorkel over coral reef right off the beach. Tell us whether you were over sand or over coral when you noticed.
Questions about Nassau and Paradise Island
We fly out this afternoon and my wedding band came off at Saunders Beach.
The tourism board suggests Saunders Beach for one last swim before a flight out of Lynden Pindling International Airport, so you may have time for one thing before you leave. Stand where you were sitting, drop a pin, and take one photo toward the water and one back toward the road. The rest can come from the gate or from home.
My watch went somewhere on Cable Beach, in front of the resorts.
Cable Beach has room for sunbathing and all the usual water sports, so a watch can go missing in very different settings. Baha Mar and several other resorts line this beach, and the one you were in front of is the first thing to tell us. Then say if the watch was on you in the water or had been taken off and put down.
Our ship sails tonight and a necklace is missing from Junkanoo Beach.
Junkanoo Beach is the beach nearest the cruise ship port, and it joins the beaches at Arawak Cay and Long Wharf. Tell us which beach shack you were closest to and which way you walked afterwards, because Bay Street and the Straw Market are close enough that the day may have carried on there.
We said Arawak, but is that Arawak Cay or Arawak Beach?
They are two different places, so it is worth settling first. Arawak Cay is in Nassau, where the Fish Fry is, with a beach right beside it that looks out on the cruise ships and tugboats. Arawak Beach is on the southeast coast of Paradise Island, past the Paradise Island golf course, a quieter beach with shallow water and powdery sand.

The waves on Cabbage Beach can be big, and Atlantis and The Ocean Club both sit along it. Send a photo taken from the sand if you have one, since the buildings in the background show where you went in, and tell us when you first looked down and saw the finger bare.
A phone went missing on our day trip to Blue Lagoon Island.
Blue Lagoon Island, also called Salt Cay, has white sand beaches, a lagoon to swim in and reef you can snorkel straight off the beach, and people get there by boat. On the sand or at the edge of the lagoon, there is ground to work with. If you think it slipped out during the crossing itself, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
I live in Nassau and lost an earring at Montagu Beach on my lunch break.
Montagu is one of the smaller beaches on New Providence, by Fort Montagu east of downtown, and plenty of people use it the way you did, for lunch or a picnic. Tell us where you sat in relation to the fort and whether you went in the water, and send a photo of the other earring.
Our rental car keys went while we were wading at Yamacraw Beach.
At Yamacraw, on the eastern end of New Providence, the water is still only waist deep far from the beach. So picture the shore as it looked from where you stood, a house or a tree, and tell us what was straight ahead of you.
