Lost a ring or watch in Sweden?

Out by the steamboat quay the lake is often shallow, and the side jetty you lay on already narrows the ground.

Siljan is often shallow around the side jetties at the far end of Långbryggan in Rättvik, so a watch that fell in there has a real chance of turning up. What shapes the search is where exactly it fell: which side jetty, and whether you were lying in the sun or climbing out of the water.

Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Sweden. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the pier or the beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.

Beaches on the west coast and in Skåne are covered on a separate area page, and so are Gotland, Öland, Stockholm and Piteå. Rättvik, Jönköping, Helsingborg, Kalmar, Västerås and Härnösand follow below.

Coast of Gotland, Sweden, with red wooden boathouses, a stone pier and waves rolling onto a pebble shore

Siljan, Vättern and Mälaren, then the sea

Three of the towns below sit on big lakes. At Rättvik the sand beach shelves gently into Siljan and is free of stones in most places. Vättern at Jönköping is clean and clear off light, fine sand, and from Västerås a summer ferry runs out to bathing islands in Mälaren.

Helsingborg faces the sea with sandy beaches, a big mown lawn and cold bathhouses, and one beach lies along the pier that separates it from the boats to Denmark. At Smitingen, on Härnön, fine sand fills the head of a bay with smooth rocks down one side.

How a Swedish case is handled

The whole case in one thread

Every reply, from the first question to the detectorist's report, comes from one person in your WhatsApp chat, so you can scroll back through the whole case in one place.

Your photos, gone through first

Before anyone travels, we go through your pins and photos with you and ask about anything unclear, so the detectorist's brief already answers their first questions.

Lost mid-crossing

A phone that went over the rail of the summer ferry out to Östra Holmen is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.

Costs, set out first

We explain the costs before any search is booked. Ask as many questions about them as you need; the answers stay in the same chat.

Beaches and bathing places from Skåne to Härnön

Start with the town. The first two cards point you to the area pages; the lakes and sea beaches after them appear only here.

Where to look on this page

West coast and Skåne

Smögen, Gothenburg and its southern archipelago, Apelviken at Varberg, Skrea strand in Falkenberg, Tylösand near Halmstad, Båstad and Torekov. In Skåne, Ribersborg in Malmö, Skanör and Falsterbo, Ystad and Sandhammaren. Two lakes, Härlanda tjärn and Kalkbrottssjön, are on it as well.

Gotland, Öland, Stockholm and the north

Sudersand on Fårö, Tofta strand, and Kallisbadet and Norderstrand in Visby. On Öland, Böda Sand and the other bathing places of Bödabukten. In Stockholm, city bathing places such as Smedsuddsbadet and Långholmen, and Grinda in the archipelago, and in Piteå, Pite Havsbad and Norrstrand.

Långbryggan and Siljansbadet, Rättvik

Långbryggan runs out into Siljan from the beach near central Rättvik and ends at the steamboat quay. At the far end there is room to swim and play, the water is often shallow, and people lie on the side jetties in the sun. Siljansbadet, the beach with the pier at its centre, is shallow and free of stones in most places. Where the river Enån flows into the lake, a small cape has a jetty over deeper water.

Vätterstranden, Jönköping

Vätterstranden is Jönköping's beach on Vättern: several kilometres of light, fine sand beside clean, clear water. It is busy in summer, so the stretch of sand where you laid your towel is the detail that counts.

Fria bad, Gröningen and Pålsjö, Helsingborg

Fria bad, whose proper name is Örestrandsbadet, is a real sandy beach in the middle of Helsingborg. Järnvägsmännens bad has a jetty and a big wooden deck, with Gröningen, a large lawn kept cut short, behind it. Tropical beach lies at the far end of Parapeten, along the pier that separates it from the boats to Denmark. Pålsjö norra and Pålsjö södra are the bathing places either side of the cold bathhouse at Pålsjö.

Långviken, Kalmar

Långviken lies on the way from central Kalmar out to Stensö. It has a sandy beach and grass, a jetty with a ramp down into the water, beach volleyball courts and a diving tower, so say whether you were on the sand, the jetty or the tower.

Lögastrand and Östra Holmen, Västerås

A short walk from the city, Lögastrand is the most central bathing place in Västerås, with a wooden deck, sand, a ramp, jetties and big lawns. In summer a ferry runs from Färjkajen to Östra Holmen, a bathing island in Mälaren with paths, rocks with a view and a diving tower.

Smitingen, Härnösand

On the east coast of Härnön, Smitingen is a long beach at the innermost end of a bay, with fine sand and water that stays shallow a long way out. Smooth rocks along one side of the bay are used for sunbathing and swimming, and there is a café and beach volleyball.

Arranging a search at a Swedish lake or beach

Each step waits for the one before it.

1

The item and the bathing place

Message us on WhatsApp with the item, the town, the beach, pier or lawn, and the last moment you know you had it.

2

Pins and photos of the spot

Pin where you lay or went into the water, then add photos of that spot and of the item, or of you wearing it.

3

Matching a detectorist to the shore

We look for a metal detectorist able to get to that beach or jetty and hand them your pins, photos and account of the day.

4

The search and its result

Once you have agreed, the search goes ahead. Afterwards we tell you which stretch was covered and whether anything came up.

Questions about Sweden

My wedding band came off as I waded out beside Långbryggan at Siljansbadet. Is that water searchable?

Yes. The sand there shelves gently and is free of stones in most places, which makes it easier ground to search. The details that help are which side of the pier you waded on, how far out along it you were, and whether you also swam from the jetty at the mouth of Enån, where the water is deeper.

Your towel is the anchor. The beach runs for several kilometres, so a pin on the spot where you lay and another where you walked into Vättern do most of the work. Mention whether you were wading or swimming, and if you swam, whether along the shore or straight out.

Fria bad is sand in the middle of town, while Gröningen is a big mown lawn behind the deck at Järnvägsmännens bad. Start with the last time anyone used the phone, then mark where you sat at each and the way you walked between them.

That turns on whether she still had it when she climbed out. Water under a tower is a harder search than sand and grass. If she only noticed later, the jetty, the ramp and the patch where you spent the day are the ground to mark.

The island has paths, rocks with a view and a diving tower. Mark the rocks where you sat, the paths you followed and the tower if anyone jumped. A picture taken from your spot, with the view in it, lets a detectorist find the same rock.

Yes. Both the fine sand at the head of the bay, where the water stays shallow a long way out, and the smooth rocks down one side can be worked. Tell us the day in order: where you lay, when you moved to the rocks, and whether you went into the sea from the rocks or from the beach. A search would start along that route.

Tylösand is on the west coast and Skåne page. The lake does not need a page of its own: send its name, the bathing place and a pin, and say at which stop the ring was last on your hand.
