Durrës, Golem and Lalëz Bay
Lost a ring at Durrës, Golem or Lalëz Bay?
Durrës beach and its promenade, Currila, Shkëmbi i Kavajës, Golem and Qerret to the south, Fllakë and Lalëz Bay to the north.
Whether something lost here can be found turns on how exactly the spot can be described. Names change repeatedly along this shore without much on the ground to mark where one ends and the next begins, so a working description is usually built out of what you could see from the spot rather than what it is called.
Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Durrës, Golem and Lalëz Bay in Albania.
Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.
The tourism agency lists pedalos, kayaks and other water sports off the Durrës beach, and beach games and light water sports at Golem. Any of that belongs in a first message, because an afternoon on the water covers different ground from an afternoon on a towel.
The part of this only you can do
Where the loss is minutes old, the useful things happen before any typing. Stay on the spot instead of walking on from it, take a photograph looking outward so the buildings behind you land in the frame, and mark the position with whatever is to hand. Then go back the way you came.
After that a first message wants the beach or the street, roughly when it happened, what the item is, and whether the sea came into it at all. Because the names here run together, the hotel, campsite or bar you were using is always worth putting in it.

Going up the coast from Qerret to Kepi i Rodonit
Each stretch as the tourism agency and the map record describe it.
Golem and Qerret
Golem beach is placed south of Durrës and near Kavajë by the tourism agency, with fine sand and shallow water and a shore of resorts, bars and restaurants behind it. Another of its pages adds golden sand and pine for shade, and lists swimming, beach games, light water sports and camping. Qerret sits south of Golem on the map record, a village inside the Golem administrative unit.
Shkëmbi i Kavajës
Crystal water and golden sand, the agency says, with a gentle entry into the sea, a long shoreline and rock formations it calls distinctive. Along the shore it lists small parks, bars and restaurants, sunbeds and umbrellas, and jet ski or paddleboard. The map record puts this beach on the coast between the city and Golem.
Durrës beach and the seafront promenade
The agency describes golden, fine sand and shallow warm Adriatic water suited to families and children, with pedalos, kayaks and other water sports off it. The seafront promenade carries long walks, seafood restaurants and the sunset, and bars and clubs after dark. A single evening on this front can cross paving, tables and sand.
Currila
Currila is written up as a beach near the city of Durrës with easy access from the centre, a shore of golden sand with small stones through it, blue water that often turns turquoise, and a depth that increases gradually. A promenade runs alongside with direct access down to the waterline. The same name sits on the hill and the road behind.
Lalëz Bay, Fllakë and Rrushkull
For Lalëz Bay the agency gives a long shoreline of fine sand near Durrës and clear water, with bars, restaurants and rest areas near the shore and woods and hills around the bay. Fllakë it calls a quiet beach with clear water and a wide sandy shore. Both sit north of the city on the map record, with Hamallaj and Lalëz village inland of them. Between the two, at Sukth, the Rrushkull woods and wetlands reach the shore around the mouth of the river Erzen, a quiet place for walks and a favourite with people fishing.
Kepi i Rodonit
The agency calls the cape a rocky peninsula reaching into the Adriatic at the northern end of the Bay of Durrës, lying between the Bay of Rodon and Lalëz Bay, with green hills, clear water and white sand beaches. The path you walked down and the beach it reached are the things to name.
What helps and what does not
Send the photographs you already took
The pictures on your phone from that day put you in places, and often in a time as well. Scroll back through the afternoon and send anything showing the spot, the view from it, or the item on you, even half in frame.
One person, from the first message onwards
You write to one person and you go on dealing with that same person. Nothing is handed round between departments, and you never explain the loss again to somebody new.
Mark anything you are unsure about
Filling a gap with a guess costs more time than the gap does. If you do not know whether you went into the water, or whether you still had it at lunch, write that down in exactly those words and it is treated as an open question.
Your map and pictures go across as they are
What you send is passed on rather than summarised, so whoever searches is looking at what you saw instead of somebody else's description of it. That is why the pin and the photographs get asked for early on.
Conditions worth settling before a search is set up
Sand, stone and depth are not the same at every name on this page.
Shallow at the city, deepening in the bay
The agency calls the water off Durrës beach shallow with a gentle entry into the sea, and says the same of Golem. At Currila and at Lalëz Bay it describes water that deepens gradually. The difference matters, so be exact about which of them you were standing in.
Sand, and sand with stone in it
Durrës and Golem are described as fine, golden sand. Currila is golden sand with small stones through it, Shkëmbi i Kavajës golden sand against rock formations, and Kepi i Rodonit white sand among the rock. Tell us what your things were lying on.
Boards, pedalos and hired boats
The agency lists pedalos and kayaks off Durrës beach, light water sports at Golem, and jet ski or paddleboard at Shkëmbi i Kavajës. Whether you were moving or standing still when it went is worth a line of its own.

Questions about Durrës, Golem and Lalëz Bay
A bracelet went over the side of a pedalo off Durrës beach.
A pedalo covers a line rather than a spot, so the ends of that line are what gets asked for: where you pushed off, and where you came back in. The tourism agency lists pedalos and kayaks among the water sports off this beach and describes the water as shallow with a gentle entry into the sea. Once you were out past standing depth, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
Our paperwork says Kavajë. We never left Golem.
Golem falls inside Kavajë municipality, and the tourism agency files Golem beach among the beaches of Kavajë, so the names travel together. Neither changes anything about a search. Where it helps to be precise is the block of resorts, or the bar frontage, you were sitting in front of.
We were told Qerret, but everything around us said Golem.
On the map record Qerret is its own village, sitting inside the Golem administrative unit, south of Golem itself. That is why a single holiday can honestly be described either way. What places you is not the name but the view from the balcony, or the table you sat at.
My glasses went between the restaurant and the sand at Durrës.
Nothing about glasses makes them a different job. What the agency gives for this front is long walks, seafood restaurants and a promenade, so tell us where the table stood and whether you stepped onto the sand at any point. What the frames are made of matters too, and it gets asked early.
Somebody said Currila and the map gave us a road.
The name does both jobs. The agency has Plazhi i Currilave as a beach near the city of Durrës, easy to reach from the centre, with a promenade giving direct access down to the waterline, while the map record carries the same name onto the hill and the road behind. Whether you were down on the beach or up on the road is the part to settle.
A watch is gone and we were staying on Lalëz Bay.
The agency describes a long shoreline of fine sand there, with bars, restaurants and rest areas near the water and woods and hills behind the bay. A shoreline like that has to be cut down first, so name the hotel or the beach frontage you were in front of, and say whether the watch came off in the water or sat in a bag on the sand.
Can anything be done at Kepi i Rodonit?
It is covered. The agency calls the cape a rocky peninsula reaching into the Adriatic at the northern end of the Bay of Durrës, between the Bay of Rodon and Lalëz Bay, with white sand beaches along it. Name the path you came down and what you parked beside, and that places you.
An earring went at a campsite behind Golem beach.
Send it in. The agency names Golem as a place people go camping, and describes golden sand and pine for shade along that shore. A pitch among pine needles and dry grass is nothing out of the ordinary. Say which pitch you were on and what stood around it.
Nobody in the group agrees on where it happened.
That stops nothing. Send each version as a version and say whose it is. Disagreement still narrows the ground, because it rules out everywhere nobody named at all.
Durrës, Golem and Lalëz Bay
You do not need the whole story to start
One message on WhatsApp is enough to open it.
Half a story is a fine place to begin. Whatever is missing comes back to you as a question, and the pin and the photographs can follow whenever you have them.
