Lost a ring swimming in Norway?
Diving towers and floating docks at Drøbak and Ingierstrand, busy sand at Huk, a lake path at Sognsvann, and shallow water at Kristiansand's Bystranda.
Something lost at a Norwegian beach can still be searched for when you can say where it went. Many bathing places near Oslo mix sand, grass, rock and docks, so the useful detail is which of those you were on, and whether it went in the water on the way out.
Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Norway. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach or lakeside, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.
The page is for people who live here as much as for visitors, and starts with the fjord beaches south of Oslo in Follo.
Fjord beaches with docks, a city lake and the southern coast
In Follo, south of Oslo, bathing places range from sheltered coves and child-friendly sandy beaches to quiet forest ponds. At Drøbak many of them mix sand with lawns, rocky outcrops, piers, floating docks and diving towers, from Badeparken in the centre out to Skiphelle, Elleskjær and Torkilstranda, and Ingierstrand lies on the east side of the fjord just outside the city.
In Oslo, Bygdøy has three beaches, and there is sand right in the centre at Operastranda and Tjuvholmen. People swim and picnic at Sognsvann lake. On the south coast, Kristiansand has a city beach with shallow water and a 3 km sandy beach at Hamresanden.
What to expect from us
You write, the same person answers
Every message, from the first one to the report after the search, goes between you and one person at Ring Seekers.
Your notes, word for word
We pass on your description as you wrote it, together with your pins and photos, rather than a short summary of it.
Deep water gets said out loud
A ring gone off the end of a floating dock, or far out from a wingfoil, is a much weaker case than one dropped on the lawn. You hear which it is before anything is booked.
Before you write
Which beach or lake, where on it you were, a map pin, and a photo of the item.
Price first
We explain the costs before any search is booked, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
Our Ring Finder Service Locations in Norway
Follo and Drøbak first, then Oslo, Sognsvann and Kristiansand
Norway has no area pages of its own on this site. The first three cards cover Follo, south of Oslo, the next three Oslo itself, and the last two the south coast.
The fjord, the city and the south
Drøbak, Follo: Badeparken, Parrstranda and Nordstranda
In the centre of Drøbak, Badeparken and Parrstranda have diving towers, a beach volleyball court, floating docks and playgrounds, with a large lawn, a sandy beach and a rocky outcrop. Nordstranda, close to the centre, is a child-friendly sandy beach with a floating jetty you can swim to, and Sprostranda, just south of the centre, has a lawn and is good for snorkelling.
Skiphelle, Elleskjær and Torkilstranda
Skiphelle has 150 m of shallow sandy beach, a large grassy area, rocky outcrops on both sides, a small pier and a floating dock. Elleskjær, between Torkilstranda and Skiphelle, has sand, a pier, a floating dock and a lawn partly shaded by trees. Torkilstranda has two small sandy beaches, grass and rocky outcrops, and its steady wind brings windsurfers and wingfoilers.
Ingierstrand, Son and Hvitsten, elsewhere in Follo
Ingierstrand, on the east side of the fjord just outside Oslo, is a family-friendly beach known for its funkis-style diving tower. At Son you can rent a kayak and paddle in the archipelago. The coastal path from Hvitsten towards Skiphelle passes a fine pebble beach in a small bay.
Huk, Paradisbukta and Bygdøy Sjøbad
Huk on Bygdøy is busy with people on hot summer days and has a sand volleyball court. Paradisbukta is a secluded little sandy beach right next to it. Bygdøy Sjøbad, on the north-west side of the peninsula, has a sandy beach and a bathing raft with a diving board.
Operastranda, Tjuvholmen and Hvervenbukta
Operastranda in Bjørvika is a large sandy beach in the middle of Oslo, well suited to families, and Tjuvholmen City Beach is a family beach beside a sculpture park. To the south, Hvervenbukta is a popular bathing place and park with a sandy beach.
Sognsvann
Sognsvann is a recreation area for picnics, swimming, fishing, walking and running. A lit path runs all the way round the lake, 3.2 km, so tell us where along it you stopped.
Bystranda, Kristiansand
Bystranda lies along Strandpromenaden near the centre of Kristiansand, with a sandy beach, seating areas, a swimming pier and palms. The water is shallow and child-friendly. Tangen, right next to it, has a climbing net, fishing spots and a viewpoint.
Hamresanden
Hamresanden, outside Kristiansand, is 3 km of sandy beach used for windsurfing, swimming, diving and walks at the water's edge, with a campsite nearby. On a beach that long, a pin is worth more than any description.

Questions about Norway
My ring came off while I swam out to a floating dock at Badeparken in Drøbak. What happens now?
First we settle where it could be. Badeparken has floating docks, diving towers, a sandy beach, a big lawn and a rocky outcrop, so pin the dock you swam to and the place you went in, and send a photo of the ring. Say too whether you think it went on the swim or once you were on the dock.
An Oura ring went missing at Skiphelle, either on the pier or on the sand. Which do we give you?
Both. Skiphelle has 150 m of shallow sand with rocky outcrops on both sides, a small pier and a floating dock, so a pin for each place you spent time, in the order you were there, gives a searcher a route to follow.
A watch came off while I was wingfoiling from Torkilstranda. Is it worth trying?
It depends where. Torkilstranda has two small sandy beaches with grass and rocky outcrops, and its steady wind is why wingfoilers use it. Pin where you launched and where you came ashore. If the watch went well out on the water, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
Our car keys disappeared at Huk on a busy summer day. Where would anyone start?
With your own movements. Huk gets very busy on hot days and has a sand volleyball court, so say if you played, whether you also walked over to Paradisbukta next door, and pin where your bags were.
An earring came off when I jumped from the diving tower at Ingierstrand.
Then the tower itself is the fixed point. Tell us which side of it you jumped from, whether you swam back to the beach or climbed out nearby, and send a pin on the tower and a photo of the other earring.
A phone slipped out of a pocket somewhere on the path round Sognsvann.
The path is 3.2 km, so break it into the places you stopped, for a picnic, a swim or a rest, and pin each one. Say which way round you walked or ran, and roughly the time.
A child's bracelet came off at Bystranda in Kristiansand. Where do we begin?
At the water's edge where the children played. Bystranda has shallow, child-friendly water, a sandy beach, a swimming pier and seating areas along Strandpromenaden, so pin the spot, say whether they used the pier, and send a photo of the bracelet.
