About Ring Seekers
Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service. We arrange searches by experienced metal detectorists who know their local beaches, parks and gardens, in 93 countries.
It was started by Bart, who lives in Mallorca, after he lost his own wedding ring in the sea there in 2022.
How it started
In the summer of 2022 I was in the sea in Mallorca, playing bat and ball with a friend. The ball hit my hand and my wedding ring flew off into the water.
People nearby helped us look. We couldn't find it. I thought a metal detector might help, but I had no idea who to call, and searching online got me nowhere.
In the end a friend who speaks Spanish found a local detectorist through a small listing online. I showed him where I had been standing and he started searching. After about two hours, he found it.
I still remember how stressful those two hours were, and what it felt like to get it back. And I kept thinking about everyone who loses a ring on holiday without a local friend to make that call.
So I built a small website for Mallorca and Ibiza and more or less forgot about it. Six months later the messages started. I sent the same detectorist who had found my ring, and then others.
Ring Seekers is the same idea for the rest of the world. I travel a lot, I look for people who search beaches as a hobby, and I meet them whenever I can. Every day we help a few more people get back something that matters to them.
How a search works
You message us and tell us what happened. We look at the place and your details and tell you honestly whether a search is worth doing. If you go ahead, we choose a detectorist who searches that area, brief them with your map and photos, and open one chat with you both. You hear back as soon as the search is done, found or not.
Who searches for your ring
The detectorists we work with are experienced, and most search as a hobby, on the beaches and parks near where they live, with their own equipment, and some can search in the water. I look for people who know their own ground, and I meet them in person whenever I can.
We keep their names private. That way every search is arranged and followed up through us, and you always know who to talk to.
What we have found this year
Barcelona, a hotel pool at night, August. Tel Aviv, 1.5 hours after the first message, September. Palavas in France, under half an hour, September. Two rings at Vale Centeanes in the Algarve, September. Castelldefels, the same evening, July. Curracloe in Ireland, August. Read every story
What we can and can't do
No one can promise a find. What we make sure of is that the right person searches, as soon as it can be arranged, and that you get an honest answer about the odds before anything is arranged.
