Kite Beach, Jumeirah Public Beach and Sunset Beach each have a lit stretch for swimming after dark, which narrows down where to begin.
Several Dubai beaches keep a floodlit stretch for swimming after dark, and that helps when a wedding band slips off in the water at night. The chance of finding it rests on two things you can tell us: which lit stretch you swam in, and where you sat before and after the swim.

Note the nearest light before you walk away
Before you leave, stand where you think it came off and save your location on the map app. A photo taken from there, with the nearest floodlight, screen or shower block in the frame, fixes the spot better than any description. Shake out towels and shoes on the spot, and check the car or taxi if you have already left.
In daylight on the Marina, at JBR or on the Palm, a tower, restaurant or jetty in that photo does the same job, and at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, where people watch the flamingos from three bird hides on its edge, name the hide. We look into the beach itself before anyone is sent.

Jumeirah, the Marina and the Palm, then north to Sharjah and Ajman
Public beaches, a waterfront full of boats, and the Palm.
Jumeirah Public Beach, Kite Beach and J1 Beach
Jumeirah Public Beach is the same place as Nessnass Beach and Jumeirah Open Beach, so all three names lead here. People kitesurf and windsurf off it, and part of it is floodlit for swimming at night. Kite Beach, just off the Jumeirah neighbourhood, has kitesurfing and paddleboarding gear for hire on the sand, and parts of it are lit for night swimming too. J1 Beach, formerly La Mer, is on the same shore.
Sunset Beach and the Umm Suqeim night beaches
Sunset Beach, also known as Umm Suqeim beach, is a public beach stretching along the coast north of the Burj Al Arab, with a running track along the sand. People surf and fish here, and light installations come on after dark so that swimmers can go in at night. There are also night swimming beaches at Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1, with lighting systems and electronic screens.
The Beach and The Walk at JBR
Most of the beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence is free and open to the public, while some parts are used by the hotels. Jet skis, parasailing, kayaks and banana boats go out from it, and sunbeds, towels and lockers can be hired by the day. The Walk, the main promenade, runs the whole length of JBR, lined with its towers on one side.
Dubai Marina and Bluewaters Island
Marina Walk, also called Marina Promenade, follows both sides of Dubai Marina, with cafes and restaurants along it. Boat tours, fishing trips and private yacht charters set off from along the promenade. Across the water from the Marina is Bluewaters Island, reached on foot by a bridge from The Beach at JBR.
Palm Jumeirah
Palm Jumeirah is a trunk, fronds and an outer crescent. Most of the fronds are private homes, and many places open to visitors are on the trunk, among them Palm West Beach. The Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk runs along the crescent, built over the rocks of the breakwater.
Al Mamzar and Al Khan Beach in Sharjah
Al Mamzar Beach Park, in Dubai, has five beaches reached across a large lawn. Al Khan Beach in Sharjah has Mamzar beach just to its south. It has a dedicated swimming area, and people kayak, parasail and surf there.
Al Heera, Al Hamriyah, Ajman Beach and Al Zorah
Al Heera Beach in Sharjah runs along Al Muntazah Street, with a jogging track, a bicycle track and a marina. Al Hamriyah Beach, also in Sharjah, has soft white sand. Ajman lies on the coast between Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain, and the Ajman Corniche is the long walkway where its city meets Ajman Beach. North of the city, Al Zorah Nature Reserve has mangrove channels, turquoise lagoons and sandy beach, and people explore the calm water by kayak.

Each beach here has its own mix of swimmers, boards and boats.
A lit stretch of beach
A lit section is a known stretch of water and sand. Say whether you were in the middle of the lights or near the edge, and which way you walked back up the beach.
Boards, kites and jet skis
Kitesurfers use Kite Beach and Jumeirah Public Beach, jet skis and parasailing go out from JBR, and at Al Khan Beach the surf school runs kayaking and flyboarding. If you lost something while doing one of these, name the activity and the place you set off from.
Calmer water inside the Palm
Between the fronds and along the trunk of Palm Jumeirah the water is calmer, and people kayak and paddleboard there. Tell us which frond or which part of the trunk you paddled from.
Questions about Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman beaches
The wedding band came off during a night swim at Kite Beach.
Kite Beach has floodlit sections for swimming after dark, so start with the section you were in and the light closest to it. Mark that on a map, and mark where you left your shoes. Tell us whether you could still stand when you noticed the band had gone, and send a photo of it, or of the matching band your partner wears.
We only know it as the public beach by the Burj Al Arab.
More than one public beach has the Burj Al Arab in view. Sunset Beach, which runs along the coast north of it, is one, and Kite Beach is another. Open the map on your phone, find the Burj Al Arab and drop a pin where you think you sat. Any photo you took with the building in it helps too, because the angle shows where you were.
Our booking said La Mer, but the signs said J1 Beach. Which is it?
Both. J1 Beach, on the Jumeirah shore, is the name La Mer goes by now. It is a strip of beach clubs and restaurants, so tell us which venue you were at and whether you went into the water.
My phone disappeared somewhere on the beach at JBR.
JBR is split into six blocks of towers: Murjan, Sadaf, Bahar, Rimal, Amwaj and Shams, with Murjan at the north-east end and Shams at the south-west. Tell us which block you were opposite, whether you had hired a sunbed or a locker, and whether you were out on a jet ski, a kayak or a banana boat that day.
The keys to our flat went into the water between the boat and the edge of Marina Walk.
Marina Walk runs along both sides of Dubai Marina, a working waterway busy with yachts and boats, so start with the side you boarded on. Then name the boat or the trip, and what stood on the walkway beside you, such as a tower, a cafe or a bridge.
Palm West Beach: one earring came home with me, the other did not.
Palm West Beach is on the trunk of Palm Jumeirah, with restaurants and cafes along its promenade and views across to Dubai Marina. Pin where you sat, name the restaurant or cafe you walked down from, and say whether you went into the sea. Tell us how the earring fastened and what it was made of.
Our daughter's bracelet is somewhere in Al Mamzar Beach Park, on the lawn or on the sand.
Al Mamzar Beach Park has five beaches, and a large lawn to cross before the sand, with a play area and food kiosks. Tell us which beach you were on, where on the grass you had your picnic or barbecue, and whether the children spent time in the play area.
A watch came off while I was kayaking at Al Khan Beach in Sharjah.
Al Khan Beach has a dedicated swimming area, and its surf school runs the kayaking, so say whether you were paddling or wading and where the kayak went in. The Sharjah Maritime Museum and the Sharjah Aquarium are a short walk from the beach and make good reference points.
I think my Oura ring came off at Ajman Beach, by the Corniche.
The Ajman Corniche is a long walkway where the city meets its beaches, with restaurants, cafes and play areas along it. The nearest of those, seen from where you sat, places your spot well. Pin it, say whether you swam, and say whether the ring had felt loose that day. Mention its colour and size.
