A ring that came off during a swim in the sheltered water at Carmel beach is worth describing to us, and so is one dropped on the lawns at Dado or the sand at Argaman in Akko. Whether a search makes sense depends on how well you can place yourself, starting with the lifeguard tower in front of you and how deep the water came on you.

First, the spot where you entered the sea
Walk back to the point where you went into the water and drop a pin, then a second one where your towel and bag lay. Look along the breakwater and note which part of it was level with you while you swam. Any photo of the ring on your hand, from that day or earlier, is worth keeping for us.
Every Haifa beach on this page has lifeguard towers, from the Students beach up to HaShaket and on to Kiryat Haim, and the one facing you is something a detectorist can find again. On Argaman, on Nahariya's beaches or on a path in Caesarea, send a photo of your surroundings in its place.

Dado and Zamir
Dado and Zamir together make one of the main bathing beaches in the south of Haifa, with five lifeguard towers along it. Behind the sand runs a long promenade with cafés, benches, wide lawns, beach volleyball courts and an amphitheatre. Tell us whether you were up on the grass or down on the sand.
Carmel beach and the Students beach
Carmel beach is close to the Hof HaCarmel train station. Its breakwaters give it relatively calm water, and it gets busier at weekends than Dado. The Students beach is the city's southernmost declared beach, popular with young people, surfers and kitesurfers, and concerts and beach parties are held on it.
Bat Galim and HaShaket
Bat Galim beach sits in the neighbourhood of the same name, with a breakwater on each side that makes a fairly calm bay. The Bat Galim promenade runs beside it, lined with benches, with cafés and ice cream shops where it begins, and on a clear day Akko is in view from it. HaShaket, behind Rambam hospital, is a separate declared beach with one lifeguard tower and a breakwater that shelters its water.
Neot Kiryat Haim
This beach is in western Kiryat Haim. A paved promenade runs along it with benches, wooden shelters and places to eat, three lifeguard towers watch the sand, and there are barbecue corners. If a phone or keys went down beside a grill, say which barbecue corner it was and which tower you could see.
Away from the sand in Haifa
The Louis Promenade runs along Yafe Nof Street with a view over Haifa Bay, and has wide lawns, tucked-away corners, benches and a large playground. In the German Colony, the restored homes and workshops of the Templers are now shops, bars and restaurants.
Argaman beach, Akko
Argaman is Akko's declared bathing beach, with golden sand and the walls of the old city on the horizon. Residents, visitors, surfers and windsurfers all use it, and it has a lifeguard service and cafés. Say what you could see from where you sat.
Sokolov, Galei Galil and Shirat HaYam, Nahariya
Sokolov is a surfing beach that draws young people through the week. Galei Galil has a double lagoon, and Shirat HaYam is on the north side of town. A promenade busy with walkers and cyclists runs along the seafront behind them.
HaBonim beach, on the Carmel coast
South of Haifa, reached from the old coast road past Moshav HaBonim, this sandy bathing beach has lifeguards from spring until late October. Shade canopies, picnic tables, a kiosk and beach showers sit behind the sand, next to an information point about marine mammals. It is a daytime beach, so name the canopy or table you settled near and the hour you arrived.
Caesarea, the town
Walking and cycling paths link the neighbourhoods of Caesarea to public parks and sports and recreation facilities. Mark the path you were on and any bench or park where you stopped.

Behind the breakwaters
Breakwaters shelter the water at Carmel beach, Bat Galim and HaShaket. Say how far out you were compared with the rocks, and how deep the water was where you stood.
Boards at Sokolov, Argaman and the Students beach
Sokolov in Nahariya is a surfing beach, and surfers and windsurfers use Argaman in Akko and the Students beach in Haifa. With a board involved, the stretch of sand you set off from and the stretch you finished on both matter.
Lawns at Dado and the Louis Promenade
Dado and the Louis Promenade both have wide lawns. Pin the corner of your rug and the path you took to reach it.
Questions about Haifa, Caesarea, Akko and Nahariya
I only noticed one earring was missing after we had left Dado. Is that too vague to start from?
Not necessarily. Dado and Zamir form one beach with five lifeguard towers, and the promenade behind it has lawns, benches, cafés and volleyball courts. Give the number of the tower nearest your spot if you noticed it, say whether you sat on the grass or the sand, and mention where you stopped for a drink on the way out. A photo of the earring that is left helps too, since the detectorist is looking for its twin.
Our phone disappeared during a family barbecue evening at Neot Kiryat Haim.
Barbecue corners, benches and seating line the paved promenade along this beach, so first say whether the phone was with you at the grill or down on the sand. Three lifeguard towers stand on the beach; name the one you could see. The timestamps on photos anyone else took that evening help place the moment the phone was last with you.
Swimming out from Bat Galim, I felt my bracelet go.
Bat Galim beach has a breakwater on each side, which keeps the bay fairly calm. Say whether you swam near the sand or out towards one of the breakwaters, and which one. Friends who were in the water with you may place you better than you can place yourself. It also helps to know what kind of fastening the bracelet had and whether it had opened before.
Is HaShaket the same place as Bat Galim beach?
No. Both are in the Bat Galim neighbourhood, but HaShaket is a separate declared beach behind Rambam hospital, with its own lifeguard tower and a breakwater that shelters its water. Say which of the two you were on, and whether your wedding band went in the water or on the sand.
My watch came off at the Students beach while I was on a surfboard.
The Students beach is the southernmost declared beach in Haifa, and surfers and kitesurfers use it. Drop one pin where you went out with the board and another where you came ashore, and say whether you missed the watch in the water or only on the sand.
I lost a ring on Argaman beach in Akko and only know roughly where I sat.
On Argaman, use the old city walls on the horizon as your landmark. Say how they sat in relation to your spot, straight ahead or off to one side, and whether you had been in the sea, which swimmers share here with surfers and windsurfers. Holiday photos with the walls in them help fix where along the beach you were.
We were in Nahariya and cannot remember the name of the beach.
Nahariya has three declared beaches. Sokolov is the surfing beach, Galei Galil is the one with the double lagoon, and Shirat HaYam is on the north side of town. The promenade runs behind all of them, so a photo taken from where you sat, or a pin dropped from memory, will settle which it was.
My wedding ring went somewhere on a walk through Caesarea. Is a route enough to go on?
A route is a good start. Caesarea's walking and cycling paths join its neighbourhoods to the public parks and sports grounds, so trace the way you went on a map and mark any bench or playground where you paused. Then say when you last remember feeling the ring on your finger.
