Lost a ring in Saint Lucia?

Dark volcanic sand near Soufrière and golden sand at Reduit call for different searches, and a loss in the harbor at Marigot Bay is different again.

A ring or watch that slipped off on a Saint Lucia beach can still be searched for. How it turns out depends mostly on how close your map pin comes to the spot, and on the reef: at beaches like Anse Chastanet it starts right by the shore, and a piece lost over coral is a different search from one dropped on the sand.

Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewelry recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost on Saint Lucia.

Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.

Saint Lucia lost ring and jewelry recovery

Two seas around one island

The west coast faces the Caribbean Sea and generally has the calmer water. Marigot Bay and the coves near Soufrière, Anse Chastanet among them, are on this side. The east coast faces the Atlantic Ocean, with cliffs, powerful waves, and currents that can be stronger. Cas en Bas is a wide, open beach on that coast, and some areas of it can have waves.

The sand is not the same everywhere either. Reduit is a long stretch of golden sand, while Anse Chastanet, Anse Mamin and Anse Cochon on the west coast, and Laborie Beach in the south, have dark sand.

How Ring Seekers handles it

No passing you around

Whoever picks up your first WhatsApp message is who you deal with right through to the result.

Briefed before setting out

Before anyone sets out, the detectorist has seen your map pin and every photo you sent.

Poor chances come first

When the details point to a poor chance, that is the opening line of our reply, ahead of any plans.

Things only you know

What the piece is made of, which hand it was on, and whether it could be in a bag or towel rather than the sea.

Knowing the cost

We explain the costs before any search is booked.

Rodney Bay, the capital, the west coast villages and the south

Getting to some of these beaches means a water taxi, a boat or a forest path, and how you arrived is part of what we need to hear. The Maria Islands Nature Reserve off Vieux Fort stays undisturbed.

Coves, bays and town beaches

Rodney Bay and Reduit Beach

Reduit Beach, in Rodney Bay, has a long shoreline and calm water, with restaurants, bars and the marina close by. Kayaks and paddleboards go out from the beach itself. On a beach this long there are quieter spots away from the main areas, so the part you were on matters. Pigeon Island Beach, inside the national landmark, has calm, clear water for swimming.

Gros Islet and Cas en Bas

Gros Islet is a fishing village whose streets fill with a street party every Friday evening. A loss that night means a search of streets, not sand. Cas en Bas, also in Gros Islet, is a wide, open beach on the east coast, and some areas of it can have waves.

Castries, Vigie Beach, Choc Bay and La Toc

Castries is the capital, and cruise passengers come ashore at Pointe Seraphine. Vigie Beach, minutes from the city center, is a long, quiet bay with soft sand and relatively calm water. Choc Bay and La Toc are in Castries as well.

Marigot Bay

Just south of Castries on the west coast, Marigot Bay is an inner harbor protected by steep hills and a narrow entrance, with calm water and a lively marina. A small beach runs along one side and is mostly reached by boat. A loss here can be at the marina, on the boat or on that beach, and it helps to know which.

Anse La Raye, Anse Cochon and Canaries

Anse Cochon is a small, sheltered cove on the west coast with dark volcanic sand, calm water and a coral reef close to shore. It is often reached by boat and is a favorite stop for snorkeling and diving trips. Anse La Raye is a fishing village where boats rest along the shore, with a Friday Night Fish Fry on the waterfront. Canaries is a small fishing village by its harbor.

Soufrière and Soufrière Bay

Soufrière is a town on the southwest coast, beneath Gros Piton and Petit Piton. Soufrière Bay is its waterfront, with boats and small beaches. Anse Chastanet is reached by road from Soufrière or by water taxi along the west coast.

Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin

Anse Chastanet, near Soufrière, is a volcanic sand beach with calm, sheltered water. Snorkeling begins just steps from the shore, over coral, sea fans and volcanic rock. Anse Mamin, just south, is reached along a shaded jungle path from Anse Chastanet: a wide stretch of dark volcanic sand with calm water and a rocky reef.

Sugar Beach (Anse des Pitons)

Sugar Beach, near Soufrière, is set between the peaks of Gros Piton and Petit Piton. The water is clear and good for swimming and snorkeling, with reefs and marine life close to shore. It is reached by way of nearby resorts.

Vieux Fort, Anse des Sables and Laborie

Vieux Fort is the main town in the south. Anse des Sables is a wide beach with white sand and clear water. Laborie Beach, next to a traditional fishing village, is calm and swimmable with dark sand, and Rudy John Beach Park in Laborie gives easy access to it.

From first message to search day

Writing before you fly home helps, but a message once you are back works too.

1

The first few lines

Write to us on WhatsApp with the beach and a line about how it happened.

2

Where, and what it looks like

Share your location on the map from where you were, plus pictures of the beach and of the ring, watch or keys.

3

Choosing who goes

We work out which detectorist can get to that part of the coast, then hand over everything you sent.

4

Search and result

Nothing goes ahead until you agree to it. Once the detectorist has been, we pass on exactly what happened, including a search that came up empty.

Questions about Saint Lucia

How far out does the reef start at Anse Chastanet? That is where my wedding band went.

Very close in. Snorkeling at Anse Chastanet begins just steps from the shore, over coral, sea fans and volcanic rock, so a band lost on a snorkel may be on reef rather than sand. If you had not gone in yet, the dark volcanic sand of the beach is the ground to cover. Tell us which you think it was.

The reef and marine life there are close to shore, so snorkeling may have taken you over it. Think back to the last moment you felt the earring and whether your mask was on then; that decides whether a detectorist starts in the shallows by the sand or out toward the reef.

Mostly where you set off from and how far you had paddled. Reduit is a long beach with calm water, and kayaks go out from the sand itself. Pin where you launched and where you think the phone went in.

That depends on where it landed. The inner harbor is calm, sheltered by steep hills and a narrow entrance, and the small beach on one side is mostly reached by boat. If the bracelet came off on that beach or at the marina, there is ground to work with. If it went over the side into the harbor, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.

Then the search is on the street itself, since the Friday party fills the village streets. Pin the stretch where you were dancing and say where else you walked that night.

Either on the dark sand of the cove or in the calm water over the coral reef, which sits close to shore. The cove is often reached by boat, so tell us whether you swam in from the boat or went ashore and into the water from the beach.

How deep you were standing. Vigie Beach, minutes from the center of Castries, is a long, quiet bay with soft sand and relatively calm water, so describe the depth in plain terms, knee, waist or chest.
