Cuba
Lost a ring on vacation in Cuba?
Varadero, the cayos from Cayo Coco to Cayo Santa María, Guardalavaca, Playas del Este by Havana and Playa Ancón near Trinidad.
A ring, chain or watch lost on a Cuban beach can still be searched for after you have flown home. Where it went matters most: soft sand at Varadero is one kind of search, the reef off the cayos another, and a map pin near the spot narrows either.
Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewelry recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Cuba. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.
North coast, south coast and the cays
Most of these beaches face the Atlantic on the north coast, from Playas del Este near Havana through Varadero, the cayos and Playa Santa Lucía in Camagüey to Guardalavaca in Holguín. Playa Ancón near Trinidad and Cayo Largo del Sur face the Caribbean Sea.
A barrier reef surrounds the Jardines del Rey cays, and off Guardalavaca a reef keeps the water calm. Varadero has gentle waves, while steady winds build waves at Playa El Paso on Cayo Guillermo. In the south, La Boca has a shore of small stones and the cove at La Batea a rocky edge.
Behind a search in Cuba
The same person at every step
Your WhatsApp chat stays with one person, who sets up the search and later tells you how it ended.
Your pin is the starting point
Whatever you send, from the map pin to a snap of the item, is handed to the detectorist before they set foot on the beach.
When the reef is the answer
If it went down over the barrier reef off the cayos, it is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
Narrowing a long beach
Varadero's beach is long, so we ask for the beach access or hotel entrance you used and when you last noticed the item.
Nothing booked blind
We explain the costs before any search is booked.
From Playas del Este to Cayo Largo del Sur
Each card below covers one resort coast, group of cays or town beach, and the list after them names every place we cover.
Resort coasts, town beaches and cayos
Varadero and the Hicacos Peninsula
Varadero lies on the Hicacos Peninsula on the north coast of Matanzas province. The waves are gentle, the sand is white and very fine, and the water is clear. Kitesurfing goes on in zones along the beach, and catamarans take people snorkeling among the cays north of the peninsula.
Playas del Este, Guanabo and Santa María del Mar
East of Havana, Playas del Este is a chain of white sand beaches with warm water: Bacuranao, Tarará, Mégano, Santa María del Mar, Boca Ciega, Guanabo, La Veneciana and Brisas del Mar. Guanabo, with its own built-up area, lies between Boca Ciega and La Veneciana, and most water sports are at Tarará.
Cayo Coco, Playa Flamenco and Las Coloradas
Cayo Coco is part of the Jardines del Rey archipelago, north of Morón in Ciego de Ávila province. Playa Flamenco is a sandy shore with clear, shallow water, and Playa Las Coloradas is a beach for water sports and sunbathing. Something dropped while wading at Flamenco and something lost diving on the reef call for two separate plans.
Cayo Guillermo, Playa Pilar and Playa El Paso
Playa Pilar lies a few kilometers from the hotels on Cayo Guillermo, with warm turquoise water, very fine sand and large dunes guarding it, and people snorkel and dive there on the coral reef. Playa El Paso is the longest beach on the cay, where steady winds make waves for water sports. If you were out on a board or snorkeling rather than lying on the sand, mention it, since that moves the search into the water.
Cayo Santa María, Las Brujas and Ensenachos
A road crosses the Bay of Buenavista to a line of cays. Las Brujas is the first, its whole shoreline taken up by one beach, with a coral reef. Ensenachos is the smallest, with the Ensenachos and El Mégano beaches. Cayo Santa María is the last and largest, and its beaches include Perla Blanca, Las Caletas, Cañón and Cuatro Puntas, set off by rocky bluffs, and catamaran trips go out from the marina.
Guardalavaca, Holguín
Guardalavaca is in Holguín province in the northeast. A coral reef lies off its strip of sand and keeps the water calm, and the seabed draws divers. Catamaran trips from here and the beaches nearby stop to snorkel on the La Cubera and Las Caleticas reefs.
Playa Esmeralda, Playa Pesquero and Playa Baracutey
Playa Esmeralda is a half-moon beach west of Guardalavaca, with lagoons around it and the green water that gives it its name. Playa Pesquero and Playa Baracutey are also close to dive sites, and a hop-on hop-off bus links the beaches, so list them in order if you visited several.
Trinidad, Playa Ancón, La Boca and La Batea
Playa Ancón is on the Ancón Peninsula near Trinidad, with clear, warm water, coral reefs, snorkeling and diving. La Boca sits by a small village where rivers meet the Caribbean, with a shore of small stones and calm water. La Batea is a cove with fine sand and a rocky shore, good for swimming among corals.
Cayo Largo del Sur, Playa Paraíso and Playa Sirena
Out on the Caribbean side, Cayo Largo del Sur is an isolated, quiet cay with coconut palms, fine white sand, turquoise water and coral reefs. Its beaches include Playa Paraíso and Playa Sirena. Paraíso or Sirena makes a difference, and so does the water's edge against the shade of the palms.

Setting up a search in Cuba by message
None of it needs you back in Cuba. It all happens on WhatsApp.
First, the WhatsApp message
Name the resort beach, town beach or cay, describe the item, and say what you were doing when you noticed it had gone.
Show us the spot
Drop a pin where you think it went, photograph that stretch with a palm, path or building in view, and add a picture of the item.
The brief goes out
We look for a detectorist able to reach that stretch of coast and pass on everything you sent.
Booked when you are ready
The search is only booked once you agree to it. Afterwards you learn what ground was covered and what, if anything, came up.
Questions about Cuba
How much of Varadero's beach would a search for a ring have to cover?
Only the part you were on. It runs for about 21 km along the Hicacos Peninsula and the sand averages 22 m across, so a pin where you lay and a note of any walk along the shore shrink it to a patch a detectorist can cover.
Is Playa Flamenco on Cayo Coco shallow enough for a search in the water?
Its water is clear and shallow, the kind of place a search in the sea can be planned for. The beach runs for three kilometers, so mark your entry point and roughly how deep the water was around you.
What should we tell you about a smartwatch lost during water sports at Playa El Paso?
El Paso is the longest beach on Cayo Guillermo, and steady winds there make waves for water sports. Mark the spot where you paddled or swam out and the spot where you came back to the sand, and say whether the watch was still on when you went in.
Can a phone left behind at Cayo Blanco after the catamaran lunch from Varadero be looked for?
Yes. Cayo Blanco is one of the cays north of the Varadero peninsula, with a wide beach where the boat trips stop for lunch by the shore. Say where the boat came in, where you ate and where you swam.
A bracelet went missing in Holguín, but was it at Guardalavaca or Playa Esmeralda?
They are separate beaches, with Esmeralda five kilometers west of Guardalavaca. Esmeralda is a half-moon about a kilometer long with lagoons around it, and Guardalavaca a strip a little over 1,300 m long with a reef off it. Photos from the day may settle it.
Is the stony shore at La Boca, near Trinidad, different ground from Playa Ancón?
Yes. La Boca sits at a river mouth, and its shore is small stones. Playa Ancón, on the Ancón Peninsula, has clear, warm water with coral reefs in the area. Knowing which of the two it was sets the whole search.
Is Cayo Largo del Sur too far from the main island for a search at Playa Sirena?
No. We look for a detectorist who can reach it, as for any other beach. It is a quiet cay on the Caribbean side with fine white sand and coral reefs, so say whether the wedding band went on the sand or while you were swimming.
Cuba
A pin on the Cuban beach is enough to begin
Open a WhatsApp chat, drop a pin on the Cuban beach or cay where it went, and add a line about the ring, watch or phone. The rest follows from there.
