Halkidiki, Thassos and Skiathos
Halkidiki, Thassos and Skiathos have the same kind of beach in common, golden sand under pine trees with water that stays shallow well out from the shore. The sea has almost no tide. All of that suits a search, so a ring lost here can often be found. What decides it is how closely you can place the spot and how deep the water was.

Tell us what happened and where. We find a detectorist who can reach that beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.
Start with the people nearest the spot. On an organised beach that is the sunbed staff or the beach bar, and at a resort hotel it is reception. Ask whether anything has been handed in. Then tie the place to something that will still be there tomorrow, such as the sunbed row or a taverna terrace. Photograph both directions, drop a pin, and note the time and whether it was sand, pebbles or water. Send all of that on WhatsApp with a picture of what you lost. You can fly home or take the ferry back and a search can still go ahead.
We pass your pin, photos and the time to the detectorist, and what changes from place to place is the ground. From Kallithea to Pefkochori the beaches are lined with sunbeds and bars. On Sithonia the beaches at Nikiti and Sarti are long and open. Thassos and Skiathos mean a ferry crossing for the detectorist. Perea and Agia Triada, on the Thermaic Gulf south of Thessaloniki, are covered too.

Kallithea is one of the main centres of Kassandra. Its golden sand is edged by pine trees and the entry into the water is gradual. Its beach bars and clubs stay busy at night. Sani is a sandy resort beach.
These three resorts follow one another along the coast of Kassandra, with Hanioti in the middle. Polychrono has 3 kilometres of sandy beach with a gradual entry, hardly any wind, and jet skis and sea bikes for hire. Hanioti has a long beach of sand and pebbles with a park beside it. Pefkochori is among the most developed resorts in Halkidiki. Its beach is crowded by day and becomes a promenade in the evening.
Nikiti has a beach of about 3 kilometres, part sand and part pebbles, where the beach bars put out sunbeds. Neos Marmaras has sandy beaches such as Lagomandra and Paradisos nearby. Vourvourou looks out on nine small islands. People rent boats and kayaks there to reach Diaporos, the best known of them.
Sarti is on the east coast of Sithonia, with Mount Athos in view. Its sandy beach is 3 kilometres long and very wide, so an exact position matters a great deal. Kalamitsi, almost at the southern tip and 15 kilometres from Sarti, has a beach of soft sand that slopes gradually into long shallows. It is open to the sea, so it can be wavy. Toroni has a curved beach 2.5 kilometres long, of thick yellow sand.
Golden Beach (Chrysi Ammoudia) is on the east side of Thassos, 12 kilometres from Limenas and 4 kilometres from Panagia. It is an organised beach with shallow, clear water, hotels, tavernas, camping and water sports. Skala Potamias is at the southern end of the same bay. Paradise Beach, 22 kilometres from Limenas and 2 kilometres from Kinira, is sandy and shallow with frequent waves.
Ferries from Keramoti land at Limenas, the capital of Thassos. Pefkari, 1 kilometre from Potos, is an organised beach of sand and pebbles known for water sports. Limenaria is the second largest town on the island and has three beaches, Limenaria, Metalia and Tripiti.
Megali Ammos is a busy organised beach of soft sand 1 kilometre from Skiathos Town. Troulos, 9 kilometres out, is a family beach with shallow water. Koukounaries, the last stop of the bus, has very fine sand, water sports and boat hire, with the pine forest and the Strofylia lagoon behind it. Banana, about 14 kilometres from town, is two beaches at the end of a dirt road. Lalaria, on the northeast coast, is white cobbles below cliffs.
You explain what happened once. The same person stays with you to the end, whether you are still at the hotel or already home.
Your pin, your photos and a picture of the item reach the detectorist before the trip, which counts on a beach as wide as Sarti or as long as Polychrono.
A ring among the cobbles at Lalaria, or a phone dropped from a moving boat off Diaporos, is a poor bet. We say so first.
These beaches stay shallow well out from the shore, so a ring lost while wading at Polychrono or Golden Beach stays close to where it went in. Where the sea is rougher, at Paradise Beach or Kalamitsi, a search in the water waits for a calm morning.

Most of the resort beaches here are sand. Koukounaries is very fine sand, Toroni thick yellow sand, and Kallithea, Polychrono and Golden Beach are sand with a gradual entry. Hanioti, Nikiti and Pefkari mix sand with pebbles, which slows the digging. Kalamitsi is soft sand but open to the sea. Lalaria is all white cobbles, and a small item drops out of sight between them.
The Aegean is nearly tideless, so there is no low water to wait for, and the sea state matters more. Paradise Beach on Thassos has frequent waves. Boats go to Lalaria only in dead calm. Any search in the water is planned for a calm morning.
The water is coolest early and late in the season, when fingers shrink and rings slip off more easily, and sun cream on the hands does the same at any time.
A reasonable one, if you can say where. Both are long resort beaches on Kassandra, and the sea has almost no tide to shift anything. A lost wedding ring gives a clear signal in sand. Tell us how deep you were standing and what you lined up with on shore. Waist deep or less can be searched by wading.
Only if you can fix the spot. Boats are for hire at Vourvourou to reach Diaporos and the other small islands offshore. If you were anchored in shallow water and know where, a phone is a big signal and metal sunglasses frames show up too. Plastic frames have to be spotted by eye, not by detector. If the boat was moving and you cannot say where, we would advise against booking anything.
You do not need to stay on the island. Golden Beach is an organised beach, so ask the sunbed staff whether anything was handed in. Then drop a pin, photograph the spot both ways and note your sunbed row. A lost Oura ring or a watch has enough metal for a good signal. Message us with the pin and photos.
In the streets of the town, retracing your steps and asking at the cafes and shops works better than a detector. If it came off on a beach, message us with the spot.
Often, if the spot is tight. Koukounaries is very fine sand, and the municipality describes Banana as golden sand with calm water. Both are busy in summer and have water sports, so tell the beach staff where you sat. Behind the beach the pine forest runs back to the Strofylia lagoon, and a ring lost on the paths under the pines or by the lagoon is searched too.
It is a long shot, and we would say so. Lalaria is large white cobbles, so a ring falls down between the stones. The municipality says the beach is reached only by sea and only in dead calm. The water is deep close in. Tell your boat crew straight away, and send us the details for a straight answer.
Yes. Perea is on the Thermaic Gulf, 15 kilometres south of the centre of Thessaloniki near the airport, and Agia Triada belongs to the same municipality. Send us the beach, the spot and the time, the same as for a loss in Halkidiki, and we look for a detectorist who can reach it.

A plain gold wedding ring slipped off in chest-deep water at Develiki beach in Halkidiki. Hours of snorkelling found nothing. Our detectorist searched at sunrise with an underwater metal detector and found it.
