Lost a ring in Israel?

A trip that runs from the coast to Jerusalem leaves a string of stops behind it, and we begin at whichever one you last saw it being worn.

A search is possible for a ring lost on a trip around Israel once you can say which beach, park or piece of promenade it was. From there, the odds rest on how precisely you can name the spot and the hour, and on what happened in the minutes after.

Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Israel. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the place, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.

Three area pages, listed lower down, cover the Mediterranean towns between Ashkelon and Nahariya, plus Eilat, Ein Gedi and Ein Bokek. For Rishon LeZion's beaches and Gan Sacher in Jerusalem, read on here.

Israel lost ring and jewellery recovery

From the Mediterranean to Eilat's shore

Israel's national list of declared bathing beaches is mostly Mediterranean, and it also takes in the Dead Sea and the Red Sea at Eilat. On that list each declared beach appears under its own name, and so does the lifeguard station serving it, which lets a loss be tied to a short piece of shore instead of a whole seafront.

Jerusalem has no beach, and the place we describe there is a park, Gan Sacher, where things go missing on the grass among picnic blankets and ball games.

Before you send the first message

Who answers on WhatsApp

You might write from the sand at Rishon, a café in Jerusalem or home after the flight. Every message lands with one person at Ring Seekers, who also sends you the result.

Nobody starts cold

Your description of the day, your pin and your photos are all gone through by the detectorist before the first step onto the beach or the lawn.

When no stop stands out

A ring that might be at any stop between the coast and Jerusalem, with none of them more likely than the rest, is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.

What to have ready

A pin on the last place you had it, a photo of that spot, any picture showing the item, and roughly what time of day it was.

The costs come first

We explain the costs before any search is booked.

Which page has your beach

Three short cards stand for the area pages in the list above, each naming what its page covers. Rishon LeZion and Gan Sacher get fuller descriptions below them.

Area summaries and two places in full

Tel Aviv and the central coast

Tel Aviv's beaches, Gordon, Frishman, Hilton and Metzitzim among them, with the promenade behind them, and Acadia, Zvulun and HaSharon in Herzliya. Bat Yam's beaches, promenade and pier are on it too, along with Sironit, Herzl, Onot and Poleg in Netanya, Ashdod beaches such as Mei Ami, Lido and HaKshatot, and Nitzanim further south. For Ashkelon it names the promenade above Bar Kochba beach and the marina.

Haifa, Caesarea, Akko and Nahariya

In Haifa, the Students beach, Carmel beach, Dado and Zamir, Bat Galim, HaShaket and Neot Kiryat Haim, along with the Louis Promenade and the German Colony, Zvulun beach in Kiryat Yam and HaBonim beach on the Carmel coast. In Caesarea, the neighbourhood paths and public parks. In Akko it is Argaman beach, and in Nahariya, Sokolov, Galei Galil, Shirat HaYam and the promenade.

Eilat and the Dead Sea

In Eilat, the North-West and North-East beaches, the promenade, the walk around the marina, Ophira Park and the Coral Beach with its reef. At the Dead Sea, the Nahal David and Nahal Arugot trails at Ein Gedi, then Ein Bokek South, the central public beach, with the Ein Bokek promenade, then Hamei Zohar beach and Neve Zohar.

Rishon LeZion's numbered beaches

Rishon LeZion's bathing beaches carry a number as well as a name, counted in order along the shore. Number 1 is Hakachol, the Blue beach, 2 is Neve Hof and 3 is Hofit, and each lifeguard station goes by the name of its beach, so either the number or the name places you. Beside the Blue beach, a stretch of shore is kept for craft without engines, worth mentioning if you took a paddleboard or kayak out.

Gan Sacher, Jerusalem

Gan Sacher, also known as Sacher Park, lies beside the Nachlaot and Rehavia neighbourhoods. It is a large expanse of grass, with trees on its edges that give shade for picnics and open stretches big enough for a game of frisbee. The park also has basketball courts, football pitches, tennis courts, a large children's playground and an exercise park, and a bike path that carries on beyond it.

A flower bed or balcony at home

People who live in Israel lose rings in a flower bed, a balcony planter or on the lawn of a neighbourhood park. The first message looks no different from a beach one: a pin plus a few photos of the soil or grass.

How a search in Israel is arranged

A Tel Aviv beach, a lawn in Gan Sacher and the shore at Ein Bokek all go through these four steps.

1

Your first WhatsApp message

Tell us what has gone and the town it went in. Where you are writing from makes no difference, in Israel or abroad.

2

A pin and some photos

Drop a map pin on the last place you had it, then send a photo of that spot, from the day or taken since, and a picture of the item.

3

Choosing who searches

Our part is finding the detectorist for that beach, park or garden, and passing along every pin, photo and note you sent, untrimmed.

4

What you hear afterwards

The result reaches you in this same chat, found or not, along with the ground the detectorist covered.

Questions about Israel

We did a Tel Aviv beach, Jerusalem and the Dead Sea on one trip, and now the ring is missing. Which stop do we look at?

Go back to the last stop where someone can say for certain the ring was on. A Tel Aviv beach is on the Tel Aviv and the central coast page, Ein Bokek and Hamei Zohar are on the Eilat and the Dead Sea page, and Gan Sacher is described above. If no stop stands out, list them in order with rough times, and mark any moment it was taken off for sun cream or a swim.

The Blue beach is number 1, and its lifeguard station has the same name. Tell us roughly how many steps from the station you sat, and whether that was on the side of the stretch kept for craft without engines or on the Neve Hof side. Mention too if you swam with the phone still on you.

Hakachol, the Blue beach, is 1, Neve Hof is 2 and Hofit is 3, and each lifeguard station carries its beach's name, so any photo from that day with a sign or a station in it may settle it. Many phones also save where a photo was taken, and that location can go to us as a pin.

First say whether you sat under the trees at the edge of the lawn or out on the open grass, because that alone cuts down the ground to cover. Pin your blanket and where you entered the park, and if the children ran off to the playground, add that as well. Say if it was a stud, a hoop or a drop, and what metal it is.

The park has basketball courts, football pitches and tennis courts, so tell us if it was basketball, football or tennis, and roughly where on the court you stood. If you took the watch off before the game, pin where your bag was left. Send its make and a photo.

That stretch is kept for craft without engines and runs straight into the Blue beach, so say which spot you pushed off from and which you landed at, even if both were the same place. Pin both, mark where the bag sat while you got the board ready, and describe the key, the fob and anything else on the ring. If the bag came open out at sea, say roughly when you noticed.

Yes. Pin each bed or pot you had your hands in that day, and tell us whether soil, weeds or cuttings from there have since gone into a bin or onto a compost heap, because the band may have gone with them. Photos of those corners and one of the band are passed on together with your notes.
