Wedding ring lost on a beach in Bulgaria?
From a seaside walkway at Balchik to a skating lake in the middle of Sofia.
Most losses on the Bulgarian coast or in Sofia's parks happen on ground a detectorist can work: sand, shallow water, lawns and lakeside paths. What makes or breaks a search is how exactly you can mark where you last had it.
Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Bulgaria. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach or park, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.
How the shore changes along the Bulgarian coast
Tides on the Black Sea are low. In places the sea floor also goes down slowly: at Sunny Beach the bottom deepens gradually, and at Sarafovo in Burgas the water is shallow with no sudden changes in depth.
Around Byala, where the northern coast gives way to the southern, the shoreline is steep and indented, a mix of rock, small bays and beaches with sand dunes. Far to the south, Ahtopol is built on a small rocky peninsula. Sofia, on its plain and the lower slopes of Vitosha, is lawns, paths and lake edges instead.
Once your WhatsApp message lands
The same person all the way
There is no hand-over to a second desk. From the first WhatsApp message to the last you are writing to one person, so the story only has to be told once.
Your holiday photos do the describing
The photos you took that day, of the towel spot, the park bench or the lake edge, go to the detectorist with your pin, so they set out already knowing the ground.
Thin chances are said out loud
Our view of the odds comes in the first reply, before any dates are talked about. A band that went over the side of a pedal boat off Sarafovo, for instance, gets a frank answer straight away.
The costs, on the table early
We explain the costs before any search is booked, and anything in them you want to ask about can be asked in the same chat.
Our Ring Finder Service Locations in Bulgaria
Find your stretch of the Black Sea, or your corner of Sofia
Three of the cards below belong to the area pages listed above and send you on to them. The rest, Shabla, Shkorpilovtsi and Byala, Tsarevo and Ahtopol, and Sofia with Pancharevo, are covered here and nowhere else.
Coast towns first, the capital last
Shabla
Shabla, near Kavarna and northeast of Varna, is a seaside resort with a clean beach. A lighthouse stands on Cape Shabla, so if your day took you out to the cape, it gives the detectorist a clear point to start from.
Varna, Golden Sands, Albena and Balchik
Balchik and Albena are joined by Dambata, a walkway along the shore that starts at Balchik's yacht port and passes the Palace on its way to Albena. For the Varna city beaches, Golden Sands and its nature park, Kranevo, the Baltata forest and the coast on to Rusalka, open the Varna, Golden Sands, Albena and Balchik page.
Shkorpilovtsi and Byala
Shkorpilovtsi, south of Varna, is a resort village with a vast beach, set between two branches of the Shkorpilovska river that both run into the sea, and Cherni Cape is close by. Just north, near the Kamchia resort, the Kamchia river reaches the sea through the longoz, a dense forest that floods when the river rises in spring. At Byala, farther down, give the bay as well as the town, since the coast there has a number of small bays.
Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sveti Vlas and Obzor
Sunny Beach lies on a crescent-shaped bay between Nessebar and Sveti Vlas. The resort, New Nessebar, Obzor and Irakli, and the beaches down to Pomorie and its lake each have their own card on the Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sveti Vlas and Obzor page.
Sozopol, Burgas and the south coast
Two Burgas beaches are covered on this page: the North Beach, which runs along the Sea Garden with its sand level from end to end, and Sarafovo, a district of Burgas north of the city. The Central Beach, Sozopol, Alepu, Arkutino and the Ropotamo, and the resorts south through Primorsko, Kiten and Lozenets to Sinemorets and Silistar are on the Sozopol, Burgas and the south coast page.
Tsarevo and Ahtopol
Tsarevo is divided into an old part and a new part, with a peninsula on its south side, so say whether you were in the old town, the new town or out on the peninsula. Ahtopol, southeast of it, is built on a small rocky peninsula and has a beach of its own, which makes rock or sand the first thing to settle there. Around both towns, Strandzha Nature Park brings its old oak and beech forest down to the coast.
Sofia's parks
Borisova Gradina is laid out as a city park near the centre and turns into wilder forest beyond Peyo Yavorov boulevard, so which side of the boulevard you were on matters. Ariana lake sits at its northern corner, with boats in summer and skating in winter. South Park, next to the National Palace of Culture, has four sectors over varied terrain, with the Perlovska river running through it.
Pancharevo Lake
Pancharevo is an artificial lake southeast of Sofia, between Vitosha and the Lozen mountain, with the resort on its west shore and forest on the east. The two shores are very different ground, and the question about the lake below goes into both.

From your first message to the search
It can all be done from your phone, wherever you are now.
Say what is missing
On WhatsApp, name the item, the town or park, and the day it went.
Pins, in the order you went
Put a pin on each place you were that day and attach a picture of the item. A screenshot of the map around your hotel or the park entrance you used works too.
Finding who can go
Next comes a metal detectorist who can travel to that stretch of sand, park or lake shore. Your pins and pictures go to them with a short note of what the item looks like.
A date once you agree
When you are ready to go ahead, a day for the search is set. Afterwards you are told straight whether the item was found.
Questions about Bulgaria
A ring came off with a glove while skating on Ariana lake. Can that be looked for?
Yes. Ariana is the artificial lake at the northern corner of Borisova Gradina, between the Eagles' Bridge and the Vasil Levski National Stadium, and in winter people skate on it. A bridge runs out to a small island at its narrowest point. Tell us where the glove came off, on the ice, at the edge or on the path afterwards, pin it, and send a photo of the ring.
What helps with an Oura ring lost while paddling at Sarafovo?
Two pins. The beach at Sarafovo, a Burgas district, runs for four kilometres of fine sand, black in places, so where along it you were matters as much as how far out you waded. Drop one pin where your things were on the sand and another where you were in the water when you noticed the ring had gone, then send a photo of the ring on your hand if you have one.
Where would a search for car keys on the beach at Shkorpilovtsi start?
With the river. The village lies between two branches of the Shkorpilovska river, both running into the sea, so say which branch you were nearer to, where you left the car and when you came off the beach. Pin your towel spot and describe the key ring and anything hanging from it.
Can the Dambata walkway from Balchik to Albena be searched for a bracelet?
A stretch of it can. The whole walkway is 7,300 metres, running along the shore from the yacht port in Balchik past the Palace to Albena. Mark where you joined it, where you left it and any stop you made in between, and send a photo of the bracelet.
Metal-framed sunglasses went somewhere at Ahtopol. Rocks or beach?
Start with where you last had them on. Ahtopol is built on a small rocky peninsula and the town has a beach of its own, so tell us whether you were out on the rocks or on the sand, pin the spot, and send a photo of the frames.
Does it matter which side of Pancharevo Lake a phone went missing on?
A great deal. The west shore is where the resort, the mineral springs and the national rowing base are, while on the east the forest comes down steep slopes to the water and ends in scree in places. Tell us which shore, pin where you stopped, and say whether you were on land or out in a boat. A phone dropped from a boat out on the open lake is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
We had a picnic in South Park in Sofia and came home without a wedding band.
South Park lies next to the National Palace of Culture and is laid out in four sectors over varied terrain, with playgrounds and the Perlovska river running through it. Say whether you sat near the river, on a slope or by a playground, pin where the blanket was, and send a photo of the band.

Send the pin while the day is still clear in your head
A pin dropped today is sharper than one pieced together from memory next month. Message us on WhatsApp with it and a line about what is missing.
