Lost a ring off a jetty in Finland?

Lake beaches around Terjärv, golden sand at Hietaranta, a curved shallow bay at Aurinkolahti, dunes at Yyteri, and cottages on lakes from Päijänne to Saimaa.

A ring lost at a Finnish lake or beach is not always gone. Whether it can be found turns on the ground under it, sand, grass, granite or lake bottom, and on how closely you can mark where it happened, down to the jetty, the rock or the towel.

Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Finland. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the lake, cottage or beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.

The page is written as much for people who live in Finland as for visitors, from a summer at the family cottage to an evening swim at a city beach.

Finland lost ring and jewellery recovery

Fresh water inland, the Baltic along the coast

In summer, most Finns head for a mökki, a cabin in the countryside that is almost always near water, preferably a lake or the sea. Lakeland, full of cottages at every price, stretches from Lake Päijänne in the south to Lake Oulujärvi in the north. In Kronoby, which takes in Terjärv, every public swimming beach is on fresh water, some on lakes, others on rivers or smaller streams.

On the coast, Helsinki's beaches range from Hietaranta next to the city centre to Aurinkolahti in Vuosaari and the granite and sand of Mustikkamaa. At Pori, Yyteri is three kilometres of shallow beach with dunes.

From us, you get

A single thread

Your case lives in one WhatsApp conversation with one person, from the first question to the final report.

Nothing lost in the retelling

Your own description, pins and photos are forwarded as they are, so the detectorist knows exactly which jetty, sauna path or stretch of sand you mean.

Deep water named as a problem

Something dropped off a jetty into deep water, or lost far out on a SUP, is a much weaker case than a loss on sand or grass. We say so before anything is arranged.

Helpful to have

The lake or beach, the nearest village, a map pin, the rough depth if it went in the water, and a photo of the item.

The cost conversation

We explain the costs before any search is booked. Take your time deciding.

Our Ring Finder Service Locations in Finland

Terjärv and the lakes, then Helsinki and Yyteri

Finland has no area pages of its own on this site, so everything we cover is below: Terjärv and Kronoby first, then cottage country, then the coast.

Lakes, cottages and Baltic beaches

Terjärv, Kronoby

Kronoby's public swimming beaches are all on fresh water, and three of them are in Terjärv: the north beach on Heimsjön, Prästlandsstranden at Emet, and Högnabba. Elsewhere in the municipality there are Norrby and Hästöskatan in Kronoby itself, and Murick on the Perho river and Seljes at Nedervetil. Tell us which beach it was and whether you were on land or in the water.

Cottage lakes, from Päijänne to Saimaa

A mökki is almost always by the water and almost certain to have a sauna, and a rowing boat knocking against a dock is part of the picture. Lakeland runs from Lake Päijänne up to Lake Oulujärvi, and Lake Saimaa is one of its most popular areas. Your own jetty, your own shore: the depth at the end of the jetty and what the bottom is like underfoot are the first things to tell us.

Hietaranta, Helsinki

Hietaranta, or Hietsu, sits right next to the city centre with golden sand and calm water. It has beach volleyball and basketball courts, an outdoor gym, a café and a fairway for light water traffic, so say whether you were playing, swimming or paddling.

Aurinkolahti, Vuosaari

Aurinkolahti curves for 700 m and is shallow and sandy, good for children. You can rent a SUP board here too. On a beach that length, a pin at your towel is the most useful thing you can send.

Mustikkamaa, Helsinki

Mustikkamaa is the island you cross to reach the zoo. Its shallow beach has sand, plenty of smooth granite rocks to lie on, and little private corners, so tell us whether you were on the sand or up on the rocks.

Myllyjärvi, Espoo

Myllyjärvi is a wilderness lake surrounded by a nature reserve, reached by walking around a hundred metres down a steep hill. The swimming beach, with beach huts, is at the south end of the lake.

Yyteri, Pori

Yyteri is three kilometres of beach with dunes and shallow water that suits even young children. Gangways and stairs lead down to the sand, and SUP and windsurfing are on offer. Say which way down you took and roughly where along the beach you settled.

2

The map and the camera roll

A pin on the spot, plus any photos of the place and of the item.

3

A detectorist within reach

We find a metal detectorist who can get to that lake, cottage or beach, and brief them.

Search day, then an honest account

The search is held on a day you agree to, and you hear plainly how it went.

Questions about Finland

My wedding ring came off as I climbed back onto the cottage jetty after the sauna. Can a lake be searched?

It can be looked at, and you know the key facts better than anyone. Tell us the lake and the nearest village, how deep the water is where you climbed out, and whether the bottom is sand, stones or mud. Pin the jetty and send a photo of it from the shore. If the ring went into deep water well off the end, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.

Yes. Prästlandsstranden is one of three public swimming beaches in Terjärv, with the north beach on Heimsjön and Högnabba. Say whether you were on the sand or in the water, pin the spot and send a photo of the bracelet.

Then start at the court. Hietaranta has beach volleyball and basketball courts, a café and an outdoor gym, so tell us which court, where your bags were, and anywhere else you walked before you noticed.

Pin where you launched and where you came back in. Aurinkolahti is a shallow, sandy bay 700 m long, so a ring that dropped near the shore is a far better case than one lost well out. Say roughly how far out you were when you noticed.

Tell us exactly which rocks. Mustikkamaa has a shallow sandy beach and plenty of smooth granite beside it, so a pin on the rock you lay on and a photo taken from there are the best start. Send a picture of the other earring too.

It is three kilometres, so we narrow it down by your route. Tell us which gangway or stairs you came down, where you sat, and whether you went into the water or up into the dunes, and pin each place.

Pin the place you went in. The swimming beach at Myllyjärvi is at the south end of the lake, by the beach huts, so say how far out you swam and how deep the water was when you noticed the watch had gone.
