Lost a ring or watch in Lithuania?

A 470 metre pier at Palanga, forest paths to the beaches at Smiltynė, and lakes you can reach from Vilnius by bus.

Whether something dropped from Palanga's sea pier can be found turns mostly on how far out along its 470 metres you were, and whether it fell near the beach end or out over the sea. On the beaches, the questions are simpler: where you lay, and where you walked into the sea.

Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Lithuania. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach or the lake, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.

Palanga, Klaipėda and Nida are all on this page, together with the other villages of the Curonian Spit and the lakes round Vilnius, Trakai and Molėtai.

Lithuania lost ring and jewellery recovery

A short seaside and hundreds of lakes

Lithuania's seaside stretches over 90 kilometres. Klaipėda's beaches range from Smiltynė, reached by a short ferry ride across to the Curonian Spit, to Melnragė and Giruliai, which you can drive or take a bus to. Karklė, between Klaipėda and Palanga, has wild beaches with no loungers and no beach bars. On the spit, every Neringa settlement has a beach on its western side, and the beaches at Nida and Juodkrantė hold the Blue Flag.

Away from the sea, Vilnius has roughly 90 lakes and several public beaches, and the Molėtai area has nearly 300 lakes, with wooden bridges, a town beach and cabins that have beaches of their own.

Dealing with us, in practice

One chat, start to finish

Your WhatsApp chat is the whole case. The same person asks the questions, arranges the search and sends you the outcome.

What the detectorist is handed

Before setting out they see your pin, your pictures and your account of the day, whether it was spent on a pier, a beach or a lake bridge.

When we think it is unlikely

A ring that slipped off far out in Lake Asveja, which reaches 50 metres deep in places, is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.

Costs before anything is booked

We explain the costs before any search is booked. Ask whatever you need, and take as long as you like to decide.

Our Ring Finder Service Locations in Lithuania

From the Curonian Spit to Vilnius, Trakai and Molėtai

Palanga and the Klaipėda beaches come first, then Nida and the other spit villages, then three lake areas that people from Vilnius and beyond use for swimming.

Piers, beaches and lake shores

Palanga sea pier and Birutė Park beach

Palanga's sea pier stands on concrete poles and runs for 470 metres, with benches where people spend the evening watching the sunset. It sits at the end of Jonas Basanavičius Street, which is full of cafés and bars in summer. The quieter Blue Flag beach at Birutė Park is a stretch of about 500 metres, reached along the old park's paths, and is used for swimming and sunbathing.

Smiltynė

Smiltynė is part of Klaipėda, but its Blue Flag beaches lie across the water on the Curonian Spit and are reached by a short ferry ride. The car ferry and the pedestrian ferry leave from different places, and from the landing it is a walk through forest to the sand, so the route you took is part of the story.

Melnragė and Giruliai

These are the beaches Klaipėda's own holidaymakers use most. Melnragė has playgrounds, courts for volleyball, handball and beach basketball, exercise machines, changing cabins and showers, with lifeguards on call. Giruliai, a village just outside the city, has a wooden observation deck. Both have large car parks and footpaths leading up to the sea, which matters if keys are what went missing.

Karklė

Between Klaipėda and Palanga, the small town of Karklė has wild beaches: waves, wind and nature, with no loungers or beach bars to fix a position by. A picture you took from your spot is the best landmark here.

Nida, Juodkrantė and the spit villages

Neringa joins the fishing villages of Juodkrantė, Preila and Pervalka with Nida, the largest. Each settlement has a beach on its western side, with lifeguards and outdoor cafés. Nida's white-sand beaches lie a little way out of the town, and Juodkrantė has a long beach and is one of the best kitesurfing spots in Lithuania.

Vilnius lakes

The beach at Lake Salotė, easy to reach on foot or by bike, has clear water, lots of sand, a rescue station and changing rooms. Lake Balžys has two beaches with bridges for bathing and sunbathing and a wakeboarding park. Valakampiai has two beaches, a larger one for games and a smaller one popular with families, and there are public beaches around the Green Lakes too.

Trakai lakes

People come out from Vilnius by train, bus, car or bike to swim in Akmena, Totoriškės, Galvė and Luka. On the northern bank of Galvė there is a beach with boat and hydrocycle hire and a volleyball court.

Molėtai lakes

The beach at Lake Asveja is a 500 metre stretch of sand with a wooden bridge and changing rooms, and boats, paddleboards and canoes for hire. Molėtai's town beach runs along Lake Pastovis, with a bridge for getting in and out of canoes. Lake Bebrusai is ringed by resorts and cabins with beaches of their own.

Arranging a search in Lithuania

Nothing is booked until you say so.

1

Tell us the story

Send a WhatsApp message: what you lost, the town and the beach or lake, and the moment you realised it was gone.

2

Mark it and photograph it

Pin the place on a map and add two or three pictures of it, plus any photo that shows the item.

3

We brief someone who can go

When you are happy to go ahead, we find someone with a metal detector who is able to reach that spot, and pass on your pin, pictures and notes.

4

You hear how it went

After the search we report back on the area covered and whether the item was found.

Questions about Lithuania

I dropped my phone from Palanga's sea pier while taking a sunset photo.

The pier is 470 metres long, so the key question is how far out you were. The last photo on your phone, or one a friend took, usually shows it. Then say whether you think it fell onto the beach or into the sea, and a detectorist can start from the right point along the pier.

Tell us which ferry you took, since the car ferry and the pedestrian ferry leave from different places, and which way you walked through the forest to the beach. Then mark where you sat on the sand. The ring could be anywhere on that route, so each piece of it helps.

We may not know until the search, so mark all of it: where you parked, the footpath you took up to the sea, your spot on the beach, and the wooden observation deck if you climbed it. Say when you last remember holding the keys.

Start with the ground on shore: where you set up the kite, your launch point and where you landed. On a long beach, those points give a search its starting line. Say when you last noticed it on your wrist for certain.

Nida's beaches lie a little way out of the town, on the western side of the spit. Tell us how you got there, the path or parking you used, and anything you remember nearby, a lifeguard post, a café, and we can pin down the beach between us.

Salotė's beach is sandy and has a rescue station and changing rooms, which help place you. Mark where you lay, the point where you waded in, and the changing room if you used one.

Pin the cabin's own beach or bridge, and give your distance from the shore and the water depth at the point you last felt the ring. Add how to reach the cabin, and we search for a metal detectorist willing to drive out to it.

Yes. People swim in Galvė, Akmena, Totoriškės and Luka, and on Galvė's northern bank there is a beach with boat hire and a volleyball court. Tell us which lake it was and pin the shore you swam from. If you also went out in a hired boat, say so.
