A bracelet lost on a cottage dock can be searched for on the boards, in the shallows beside them and off the end. What decides it is whether anyone saw or heard it go, where on the dock you were, and whether the clasp gave way on the dock itself or later in the water.

Check the dock itself before the lake
Look along the gaps between the boards, on the ladder rungs, in the boat if one is tied up, and through the towels and cushions. A bracelet can drop through a gap as easily as off the side. If it is not there, keep everyone off that side of the dock and out of the water beside it for now.
Then write down the side you were on and what you were doing: sitting with your feet in the water, reaching down for a line, climbing out after a swim. Take a screenshot of the satellite view, mark a cross where you think it went, and find a photo of the bracelet on your wrist. At a town beach, the public dock, the raft or the volleyball court takes the place of your own dock.

Bobcaygeon, between Sturgeon Lake and Pigeon Lake
Bobcaygeon sits where Pigeon Lake and Sturgeon Lake meet. Bobcaygeon Beach Park on Park Street has a beach, docking and a playground, and its boat launch goes into Sturgeon Lake. On the Pigeon Lake side there is a municipal dock on Front Street. Riverview Park on River Park Drive has a sandy shoreline with water access, a playground and picnic shelters.
Garnet Graham Park, Fenelon Falls
Garnet Graham Park on Francis Street East has a beach, and paddlers set off from it onto Cameron Lake, whose shoreline is limestone. Around the sand are a beach volleyball court, a gazebo picnic shelter, a splash pad and a playground.
Lindsay, Omemee and Coboconk
In Lindsay, Memorial Park on Lindsay Street South has baseball, disc golf, a tennis and pickleball court and a playground. Kawartha Park on Adelaide Street North has soccer and a walking trail, and Logie Park on Logie Street has a paddle sport dock and a splash pad. Omemee Beach Park has a beach and a skate park. Coboconk Lions Park has a beach, docking, an outdoor stage and a playground.
Balsam Lake and Emily provincial parks
Near Kirkfield, Balsam Lake Provincial Park has a large sandy beach, several docks and a boat launch onto Balsam Lake. Near Omemee, Emily Provincial Park has a day-use beach, docks and two boat launches on the Trent-Severn Waterway. Tell us which dock or which part of the beach you were at.
Head Lake Park and Rotary Beach, Haliburton
Head Lake Park runs along the shore of Head Lake in Haliburton village, with a playground, a band shell, disc golf and a public boat launch. Rotary Beach, on Park Street, is sandy and shallow, with a dock and an accessible beach mat.
Public beaches on the Dysart lakes
Dysart et al runs public beaches on several of its lakes. Slipper Beach is a small beach area on Lake Kashagawigamog. Eagle Lake Beach has a floating raft and a playground. Pine Lake Beach, across the road from the West Guilford Community Centre, has a dock and a sandy area, and Haliburton Lake Beach has a large beach area, a dock and a floating raft.
Rotary Park and Twelve Mile Beach, Minden Hills
Rotary Park, reached by Rotary Park Road off Highway 35, lies along the Gull River with a boat launch and small dock, two separate beaches and a playground, so say which beach you used. Twelve Mile Beach on Chambers Road is a sandy township beach with a mix of sun and shade.

I heard something hit the water as I stood up on the dock, and my bracelet was gone. What now?
The splash is useful, because it points to the lake beside one part of the dock. Say which side the sound came from and how far along the dock you were, then send a photo of the bracelet and the satellite screenshot with your cross on it. If the water there is clear, look from the boards before anyone wades in.
After a swim off the anchored boat, my watch was not on my wrist.
Then the boat's position counts for more than the cottage. Name two things on shore you could see from where it was anchored, such as your dock and a neighbour's boathouse, and roughly how far out you were. Give us the make of the watch and whether the clasp or the strap failed.

My chain caught on the line while I tied up at Bobcaygeon Beach Park.

The beach at Balsam Lake Provincial Park is large and sandy, so start from the parking lot and the path you took down, then what you set up beside. Say whether you swam straight out, walked the shallows or went off one of the docks, and when you last noticed the ring on your hand.
After lunch under the gazebo at Garnet Graham Park in Fenelon Falls, one earring was missing.

Where on the Memorial Park court in Lindsay should we look for my glasses?
Memorial Park on Lindsay Street South has a multi-use court for tennis and pickleball, so start from the half you played on and the spot where your bag sat. If you also went to the playground, the ball diamond or the disc golf course, say so. Tell us whether the frames are metal and what colour the lenses are.
We got back to the car at Slipper Beach and the keys were not in the beach bag.
Slipper Beach is a small beach area on Lake Kashagawigamog, and its parking is at a separate address along Wigamog Road, so the walk to and from the sand is part of the search. Tell us where the bag sat, whether anyone swam with the keys in a pocket, and what else hangs on the ring.
