Turks and Caicos

Wedding ring lost in Turks and Caicos?

Grace Bay and Leeward, the kite beach at Long Bay, the coves near Chalk Sound and the cruise stop on Grand Turk.

A wedding band that slipped off at Grace Bay or Long Bay still has a chance of turning up. Where it ended up decides most of it: sand and the shallows near shore leave a search something to work with, coral heads and seagrass far less. Photos from that day then show us the exact place.

Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewelry recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Turks and Caicos.

Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.

Turks and Caicos lost ring and jewelry recovery

A reef off the north shore, shallow banks off the south

Grace Bay, Leeward Beach and the Bight run along the north coast of Providenciales. A barrier reef offshore keeps the Atlantic swell off Grace Bay, so the water is usually calm over soft white sand. The Bight is sheltered from the trade winds, with seagrass a short way out. On the remote west coast, Malcolm's Road Beach sits close to the drop-off at the edge of the Caicos Islands plateau.

The south side of Provo faces the shallow Caicos Banks. Long Bay gets none of the open-ocean swell, and Sapodilla Bay and Taylor Bay are small sheltered coves.

Working with us, in practice

One chat from start to finish

Your first WhatsApp message opens one chat, and the same person runs it until the search is done.

The brief is built from your photos

Before anyone walks onto the sand, the detectorist has studied your pin and your pictures from that day.

When the chances look slim

If yours looks like a hard one, we tell you in so many words, and the choice to go ahead stays yours.

Money comes up early

We explain the costs before any search is booked.

Beaches, coves and reefs across the islands

The cards run along the north shore of Providenciales, cross to Long Bay and the Chalk Sound coves, then move to the other islands. Cheshire Hall and the Pigeon Pond and Frenchman's Creek Nature Reserve are left alone.

Around Providenciales and beyond

Grace Bay Beach

On the northeast coast of Providenciales, lined with most of the island's large resorts, many of which keep their loungers for guests. The water is usually calm. Boat tours cruise the shallows inside the reef. Public accesses include Forbes Point, Central and Rickie's.

Leeward Beach

Grace Bay continues east as Leeward Beach, quieter, with soft white sand, beachfront villas and several rock jetties. Its accesses are Stubb's Point (also called Pelican Beach or Sunset Beach), Pelican Point, and Leeward Going Through by the channel at the eastern end, where tour boats pass all day. The sun usually goes down across the bay.

The Bight Beach and Coral Gardens

West of Grace Bay the shore becomes the Bight Beach, running from the Bight Reef, known as Coral Gardens, to Smith's Reef. Some villas and hotels here say they are on Grace Bay, so the access name matters: Bight Park, Sellar's Cut, Lizard Lane or Delancy Lane.

Turtle Cove and Smith's Reef

A residential area on the north coast of central Providenciales, built around Turtle Cove Marina, base for water sports businesses and fishing charters. The beach is fronted by Smith's Reef, separate reefs and coral heads that people snorkel from the sand.

Long Bay Beach

On the southeast side of Providenciales, facing the Caicos Banks, so the water stays shallow far out and there is no open-ocean swell, just an occasional small chop from local winds. Kiteboarding is the big draw, with dozens of kites up on windy days, and learners can stand while they practice.

Sapodilla Bay

A small sheltered cove on the south coast near Chalk Sound, with shallow, calm water and very fine white sand. With so little sand, a busy day feels crowded. There is an access with parking at each end.

Taylor Bay

A very short drive west of Sapodilla Bay. The Ocean Point peninsula shelters it from the trade winds, so the water is very shallow, calm and clear. A path from Ocean Point Drive leads to the sand, and low sea cliffs close off both ends.

Grand Turk and Salt Cay

The Grand Turk Cruise Center beach is right beside the ship, with a rocky bottom nearest the pier. Governor's Beach, a short way off, has clear water and white sand. Pillory Beach fronts Cockburn Town, the capital. On Salt Cay, North Bay Beach has powdery white sand and clear water.

North Caicos and Middle Caicos

All the beaches on North Caicos, Pumpkin Bluff Beach and Hollywood Beach among them, are on its north coast, a little more sheltered from swell than many on Middle Caicos. There, Mudjin Harbour can get a real swell and breaking waves, while Bambarra Beach is usually sheltered.

Questions about Turks and Caicos

A wedding band came off while we swam at Grace Bay on our honeymoon. How do you work out where it is?

The water off Grace Bay is usually calm, and the sea floor drops away closer to shore than it does at Long Bay, so whether you were wading or swimming out of your depth changes where a search starts. The resort or beach access behind you, and a photo looking out to sea from your spot, pin it down further.

Partly. Long Bay stays shallow a long way out, which is why learners can stand, but a kite pulls you across a wide stretch of water. A watch dropped while rigging on the sand near the Shore Club or Stubb's Cove access leaves a small area to cover. If you only noticed after the session, tell us where the lesson was held.

A small, sheltered cove with calm, shallow water and very fine white sand, backed by villas, and it fills up quickly on a busy day because there is so little of it. Tell us which end you were nearer and which of the two parking areas you used.

No, it is very shallow, calm and clear, sheltered by the Ocean Point peninsula. The beach is short, with low sea cliffs at both ends, so say whether the children were near one of the cliffs or in the middle, and whether the earring came off in the water or on the sand.

Coral Gardens is one main ridge of reef off the western end of Grace Bay. Smith's Reef, by Turtle Cove, is several separate reefs and coral heads. Tell us whether you were still close to the beach or already over the reef when you noticed.

Stubb's Point, also called Pelican Beach or Sunset Beach, is a stretch of sand broken up by several rock jetties. Name the jetty you were nearest, say whether you had walked out onto it, and send a daylight photo of that part of the beach if you can.

Write to us all the same. Governor's Beach is a short way from the Grand Turk Cruise Center, and the photos you took that day may show where you sat. If it was the Cruise Center beach, say how close to the pier you were, since the bottom nearest the pier is rocky.

A great deal. Half Moon Bay is a boat cruise stop with iguanas and a shallow lagoon. Metal frames that dropped in the lagoon give a detectorist something to work with, while plastic ones need someone looking by eye or a diver. If they went in from a moving boat, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
