Dominica
Lost a ring or watch snorkeling in Dominica?
Roseau and its cruise berth, Champagne Reef and Scotts Head in the south, Mero on the west coast, and Portsmouth and Calibishie up north.
Often it can be found, and on Dominica the ground decides a lot: black sand at Mero, pebbles on the Soufrière shore, coral off Champagne Beach, a river bed inland. A pin dropped close to the spot decides the rest.
Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewelry recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost on Dominica. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.
A ring lost tubing on the Layou River or swimming through Titou Gorge counts too.
Caribbean Sea to the west, Atlantic to the northeast
Mero, the Roseau waterfront and Champagne Beach sit on the sheltered leeward coast, the west side, facing the Caribbean Sea. Farther south, Soufrière Bay is an extinct volcanic crater, and at Scotts Head, where a causeway runs out to Scotts Head Point, the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic.
Mero is black sand, while the beach around Soufrière Bay is coarse, brownish sand and pebble, and the shore around the headland at Scotts Head is rocky. In the northeast, Batibou and Calibishie have golden sand, and the Red Rocks near Calibishie look out over the Atlantic coastline.
Where Ring Seekers comes in
Write from the ship or from home
Wherever you are by then, still in Roseau, on board or home, you keep writing to the same person, who briefs the detectorist and tells you the result.
Photos with the rocks or the boardwalk in them
Cliffs, rocks, a boardwalk or a river bend are good landmarks here. Photos showing them go to the detectorist with your map pin.
Coral and the cruise berth
Coral off Champagne Beach and the water alongside the Roseau cruise berth are the hard cases. A search there is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
Sand, pebbles or river
Black sand, pebbles and a river bed are very different ground. Tell us which it was, because that is the first thing we weigh before suggesting a search.
Talked through at the start
We explain the costs before any search is booked.
Round the island from Roseau, then inland
Roseau comes first, then the southern tip, then the west coast up to Portsmouth and round to the northeast. Rivers close the list.
Named beaches and inland swims
Roseau, the Bay Front and the cruise berth
Roseau sits on the southwest coast between the Caribbean Sea, Morne Bruce hill and the Roseau River. The Bay Front runs by the Old Market, and the cruise ship berth is within walking distance of the shops, close to the Dominica Museum and the Craft Center. Say whether it went on the berth walkway, on the Bay Front or at a beach out of town.
Champagne Beach and Champagne Reef, Pointe Michel
Champagne Beach is near the village of Pointe Michel, and a boardwalk leads to the snorkel site. Warm volcanic vents on the seafloor, found in and near the shore along this stretch, send up bubbles, and people snorkel and dive among them over coral reef. Say whether you were on the beach, the boardwalk or in the water.
Soufrière Bay
Soufrière village is on the bay, which is an extinct volcanic crater. The beach is coarse sand and pebble, brownish in color. Say whether you were on the pebbles or in the water.
Scotts Head village and the causeway
Scotts Head is a village in the south, where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic. A causeway runs from the village out to Scotts Head Point, the shore around the headland is rocky, and people snorkel and dive at Scotts Head. Tell us whether you were on the causeway, off the village or on the headland.
Mero Beach, between St Joseph and Salisbury
Mero is a black sand beach below cliffs on the west coast, between the villages of St Joseph and Salisbury. A photo from where you put your things down, taken toward the cliffs, gives a search its starting point.
Portsmouth, Purple Turtle Beach and the Cabrits
Portsmouth has a ferry dock on the northern coast, and a second cruise berth sits on the northwest coast inside the Cabrits National Park area, which looks out over Prince Rupert Bay. Purple Turtle Beach and Picard, near Portsmouth, are where people go for a swim and stay for the sunset, and Douglas Bay, also near Portsmouth, is another sandy spot. Name the beach, or say if it went on the walk from the Cabrits berth.
Calibishie, Batibou and Point Baptiste
On the northeast coast, Calibishie Beach and Batibou Beach have golden sand for swimming and strolling. The Red Rocks near Calibishie are volcanic formations with views of the Atlantic coastline, and Point Baptiste, on the north coast, is a beach shaded by coconut trees with views of red rock formations.
Rivers, gorges and waterfalls inland
Away from the sea, people go tubing on the Layou River, swim through Titou Gorge to a hidden waterfall, and wade through the river to the base of Trafalgar Falls. For a river, mark the spots where you entered and left the water.

How it runs on Dominica
The detectorist works from what you send, so the first messages matter most.
The day in your own words
Say what is missing, where on Dominica you were, and whether it went in the water, on the sand or on the walk back.
Mark it and show it
A map pin at the spot, a few pictures that take in the nearby rocks, cliffs or boardwalk, and a photo of the item if you have one.
A detectorist with your pin in hand
Your pin, photos and story are passed to a detectorist who can get to that beach or river, so the search starts from your picture of the day.
A date, then an honest answer
Once you agree, the search is arranged. You hear how it went in the same WhatsApp chat, whether or not anything turned up.
Questions about Dominica
What is under the water where the bubbles rise at Champagne Reef? My watch came off there.
Coral reef, with warm vents on the seafloor sending the bubbles up. Along that stretch the vents are found in and near the shore. Tell us where you went into the water and whether you were over the bubbles when you noticed.
Which landmarks help place a wedding band lost on Mero Beach?
The cliffs above the black sand are the obvious one, and the beach lies between the villages of St Joseph and Salisbury. Pin where you put your things down, send a photo toward the cliffs from there, and say whether you went in the water.
Where on the Scotts Head causeway should I pin a dropped phone?
Pin exactly where you stood and say which side of the causeway you were on. It runs from Scotts Head village out to Scotts Head Point, where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic, and the shore around the headland is rocky. A photo looking back toward the village from your spot helps place it.
Is a ring lost on the Soufrière shore easier to find than one lost swimming?
Usually the patch to search is smaller. The shore there is coarse, brownish sand and pebbles, so tell us exactly where you sat and send a photo of the spot with a landmark in it.
Could metal-framed sunglasses that fell from the Roseau cruise berth walkway be reached?
On the walkway or the platform, they are a very different case from sunglasses in the sea. The water alongside the berth is 13m deep, far deeper than anywhere you could stand. Tell us where they landed.
How is a search for keys lost tubing down the Layou River narrowed?
With two points on the map: where you got into the river and where you got out. The keys could be anywhere between them, or back where you parked, so also tell us when you last felt them in the pocket.
Is a bracelet lost at Batibou more likely on the sand or in the sea?
Your day there decides it. People come to Batibou to swim and to stroll along the golden sand, so mark where you put your things down, where you swam and how far you walked.
Could an Oura ring lost swimming through Titou Gorge be found?
The swim goes through a narrow gorge and ends at a waterfall. Tell us whether you swam all the way to the falls, and whether you noticed in the water or only once you were out.

We only need the place, the item and roughly when you last had it to begin. Send them on WhatsApp with a map pin on the spot.
