Natadola Lefts, the gentle beach break just offshore, is where people come to learn to surf.
Where the band came off decides more than anything else here. Natadola has soft white sand and a healthy reef you can swim out to from the beach, and a ring lost where you stood in the shallows or on the walk back up the sand is on ground a detectorist can work. Out at a reef break, farther from shore, it is a harder question.

The Coral Coast is the reef-fringed southern shore of Viti Levu, midway between Nadi and Suva. This page covers Natadola, Sigatoka and Korotogo, Cuvu Beach and Yanuca Island, Maui Bay, and Pacific Harbour with Beqa Lagoon off its shore.
The instructor saw more than you did
If it happened during a lesson, the instructor knows where the group stood and where the boards went out, which is worth more than any map you draw later. Ask them to show you, pin that spot, and pin the place where your bag and towel lay on the sand.
Outside a lesson the idea is the same: whoever was with you will remember things you have forgotten. Send a photo of the band, or of the matching one, so the detectorist knows its width and its metal.

Along the southern shore of Viti Levu
Natadola comes first, then the coast around Sigatoka, then Pacific Harbour and the lagoon off it.
Natadola Beach
Natadola is soft white sand and turquoise water, with a healthy reef close enough to swim to from the beach. People snorkel and paddleboard off the reef, have barbecues on the sand, and learn to surf on the gentle break just offshore. Say which part of the beach you were on and what you could see from your towel.
Sigatoka and Korotogo
Sigatoka has vibrant markets in the heart of town, full of fresh produce from the farms of the Sigatoka Valley. Along the coast at Korotogo is the Sunset Strip. If something went missing in town rather than on a beach, list the shops and stalls you stopped at and where the car was parked.
Cuvu Beach and Yanuca Island
Cuvu Beach, across from Yanuca Island, is where local families come for picnics and lazy beach days. Its bay is deep with a sandy bottom and good for swimming, and there is parasailing and tubing out in the bay. Yanuca itself is a coral-fringed island close to Sigatoka town, reached by a causeway from the mainland.
Maui Bay Beach
Maui Bay is a roadside stop on the drive around Viti Levu, with a jetty where people feed the fish, shade under the trees and food stalls nearby. Snorkellers explore the reef there. If something went off the jetty, say from which side and roughly how far along.
Pacific Harbour Beach
Between the river trips and rainforest outings around Pacific Harbour, its long, sandy beach is where people unwind: swimming, picnics, a rugby ball on the sand, a stroll. Locals come from as far as Suva. Some parts belong to the resorts and others are public, so tell us which section you were on.
Beqa Lagoon and the other Yanuca
Beqa Lagoon lies off Pacific Harbour, and boats go out from there to snorkel around Beqa Island, a second island called Yanuca, and the bommies scattered through the lagoon. Beqa has coastal forest and secluded bays. For a loss out here, the name of the boat and where it stopped matter most.

Snorkelling straight off the beach
Many beaches on the Coral Coast have calm, clear water, and the coral starts just off the sand. Tell us plainly where you were when you noticed: standing, swimming, or floating above the reef.
Tide and swell at Natadola
Snorkelling off Natadola is easier at mid to high tide, and the currents there are very gentle unless a big swell rolls into the bay. Give us the time of day it happened, so the detectorist can plan around the tide.

Halfway through a surf lesson at Natadola I looked down and the wedding band had gone.
Start with the lesson. Natadola Lefts is a gentle beach break just offshore, so tell us whether you were standing in the shallows, lying on the board or wiping out farther out, and roughly what time it was. Ask the instructor to point out where the group practised. If the lesson began on the sand, check where the boards were laid out.
Swimming out into the bay at Cuvu, I lost my watch.
The bay at Cuvu is deep, with a sandy bottom, so whether you could still stand matters a lot. Tell us that, where you went in, and where you were sitting on the beach. If the parasailing or tubing boats were running nearby, mention it, because it helps us place you in the bay.
My Oura ring went missing on Yanuca Island. Which Yanuca do you need to know about?
There are two on this page. One is the coral-fringed island near Sigatoka, joined to the mainland by a causeway, across from Cuvu Beach. The other is in Beqa Lagoon off Pacific Harbour, and you get there by boat. Tell us which, and whether it went on the sand, in the water or on the crossing.
My sunglasses fell off the jetty at Maui Bay while we were feeding the fish.
Say whether the frames are metal or plastic, which side of the jetty they went off, how far along you were standing, and whether anyone was snorkelling underneath at the time.
A bracelet went missing while we threw a rugby ball around on Pacific Harbour Beach.
The beach is long, so start by marking the ends of the patch you played on. Tell us whether that was a public section or in front of a resort, and whether anyone went into the sea afterwards.
An earring came out while I was snorkelling in Beqa Lagoon.
Boats go out from Pacific Harbour to snorkel around Beqa Island, Yanuca and the bommies in the lagoon, so the crew will know where they stopped. Ask them for the name of the spot, then tell us whether you were over a bommie or open water and how long you had been in.
We had a barbecue on the sand at Natadola, and by the evening my chain had gone.
Mark where the barbecue was set up and where people sat to eat, and say whether you went swimming before or after. A photo taken from your spot, with the sea or the trees behind it, lets us line the place up.
Our car keys went missing somewhere in the Sigatoka markets.
The markets are in the heart of Sigatoka, so the car park, the stalls and the streets between them all come into it. Go back through them in the order you visited, speaking to the stallholders you bought from. Then send us that order, with a pin for where the car stood.
We drove the Coral Coast for a day and have no idea which beach it was.
Then start from the day rather than the beach. List the beaches and stops in order, and look at the times on your photos, which may narrow it to one or two places. Send the list, and we come back with questions about the likeliest one.
