A ring lost in the sea at Mamaia Nord can be looked for when you can trace your walk out and back. The sea there deepens only slowly, over a shelf that reaches well out from the beach, so the place where you noticed it gone may still be shallow enough to search.

At the edge of the sea, straight away
Go back down to the point where you entered the sea and drop a pin there, then take a photo from that spot facing the beach, so the buildings behind the sand fix where you were. If the ring could have come off before your walk into the sea, shake out the towel and go through the bag too.
Each place on this coast needs one detail of its own. At Plaja Modern it is which breakwater you were near, at Techirghiol which part of the Băile Reci beach, at Eforie how far you were from the cliff, and at Gura Portiței whether it happened on the boat or on the sand.

From the salt lake at Techirghiol to the Delta shore
From Tuzla up to Sulina, in the order you would drive or sail it.
Tuzla and Eforie Sud
Tuzla has a narrow, wild beach. Next door, Eforie Sud has a narrow beach of fine sand at the foot of its cliff. On sand this narrow, the main question is how far along the beach you were, not how far from the water.
Techirghiol, Băile Reci and the lakeside park
At Techirghiol the black mud lies on parts of the lake bed, and in the warm months people still spread it on themselves at Băile Reci, the beach on the lake shore in front of the spa sanatorium. Băile Reci has changing rooms, showers and fine river sand. A large park runs along the lakefront in the town.
Eforie Nord and Agigea
Eforie Nord lies between Agigea to the north and Eforie Sud to the south, on the land between the sea and Lake Techirghiol, and a high cliff closes off its beach at the northern end. At Agigea, a beach that had worn down to a strip of sand has been rebuilt with sand brought in from the open sea.
Plaja Modern, the Casino and the Tomis port
Plaja Modern in Constanța is wide, with sand as fine as semolina and calm water that stays shallow far out, held between two long breakwaters. The Casino waterfront is a promenade along the shore, and the Tomis tourist port is lined with restaurants, cafés and terraces looking over the boats.
Mamaia, the promenade and Lake Siutghiol
Mamaia is the resort in the north of Constanța, with the Black Sea on one side and Lake Siutghiol on the other. The beach is long and wide, with fine sand and a gentle way into the sea. Behind it runs the promenade, lined with terraces, the cable car looks out over the resort, and on the lake people take boats out or water ski.
Mamaia Nord and Năvodari
Mamaia Nord runs on from Mamaia towards Năvodari, a town on the neck of land between Lake Tașaul and Lake Siutghiol. The beach is broad and covered in fine sand, the sea deepens gently over a shelf that reaches well out, and in summer there are concerts on the sand. At Năvodari, windsurfers, surfers and jet skis share the water.
Corbu, Gura Portiței and Sulina
Corbu is on the sea between Năvodari and the Danube Delta. Gura Portiței is a holiday village on the narrow strip of land between the Razim Sinoe lagoon and the sea, reached by boat from Jurilovca. Sulina, a port on the Sulina Canal of the Danube and on the Black Sea, is reached only by water, and a route leads from the town out to Sulina beach.

The beach at Eforie has no tide at all, so there is no waiting for the water to go out before anyone searches the sand.
A slow slope off Mamaia Nord
At Mamaia the way into the sea is gentle, and off Mamaia Nord the shallow shelf runs a long way out. Tell us if the sea reached your knees, your waist or your chest when you last felt the ring.
Sea on one side, lake on the other
Mamaia has Lake Siutghiol behind it, Năvodari sits between Lake Tașaul and Lake Siutghiol, and Eforie and Techirghiol border Lake Techirghiol. Say whether you were by the sea or the lake, because a lake shore and a beach are searched differently.
Questions about Constanța, Mamaia and the north coast
I had waded a long way out off Mamaia Nord before I saw the ring was gone.
Off Mamaia Nord the sea deepens only slowly, so much of the water you walked through is shallow. Drop a pin where you went in, say how many minutes you were out and whether you walked straight out or along the beach, and add a photo from the water's edge that shows the buildings behind the sand.
I came away from the Băile Reci beach at Techirghiol without my bracelet.
Băile Reci is a laid-out beach on the lake shore, with changing rooms and showers, and the spa sanatorium facing it gives you a fixed point. Tell us where you settled in relation to the sanatorium, whether the bracelet was still on when you left the changing room, and send a photo of the clasp.
I lost my Oura ring during a swim at Plaja Modern in Constanța.
Plaja Modern lies between two long breakwaters, and the calm water inside them stays shallow far from the sand, so you may well have been standing when it came off. Say which breakwater you were closer to and how deep the water was around you, and send a photo from the sand showing where you went in.
One of my earrings fell off on an evening walk along the Casino waterfront towards the Tomis port.
Both are promenades, so the search follows your route. List the places you stopped, including any café table in the port or bench on the waterfront, and send a picture of its partner.
We lost the car keys somewhere on the beach at Tuzla.
The beach at Tuzla is narrow, so the search runs along it rather than out towards the sea. Start from the car, which way you turned on reaching the sand and how far you went before settling. If there is a spare key at home, a picture of it helps.
A watch came off on the beach at Eforie Nord, not far from the cliff at the north end.
The high cliff that closes off the north end of the beach at Eforie Nord makes a clear landmark. Tell us roughly how many minutes you had walked from its foot, and whether the strap has a buckle or a clasp.
My chain was gone by the time the boat from Jurilovca got to Gura Portiței.
Then the boat and the port at Jurilovca come first. If the chain went over the side while crossing the lagoon, it is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first. If it could have come off on the beach at Gura Portiței, on the narrow strip between the lagoon and the sea, pin where you sat and where you swam.
My phone was in my pocket when we set out from Sulina for the beach, and missing when we got back to town.
Sulina beach is reached by a route out from the town, whose streets run parallel to the Danube and are numbered from Strada I to Strada VI. Tell us which street you set off from and whether you came back the same way, then pin the part of the beach where you spent the day.
