Latvia
Lost a wedding ring in Latvia?
About 8 kilometres of fine sand at Liepāja, three sea beaches in Riga, and more than 3,000 lakes.
A ring lost on Liepāja's beach has a real chance if you can point to the part of the beach where you spent the day, because it runs for about 8 kilometres. The search then turns on pinning down the moment: on your towel, in the shallows, or somewhere in the Seaside Park.
Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Latvia. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach or lake, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.
Majori and the rest of Jūrmala have a page of their own. This page covers Liepāja, Pāvilosta, Ventspils, the beaches and lakes of Riga, Saulkrasti and the lakes of Latgale, Kurzeme and Zemgale.
Sea beaches, a gulf shore and thousands of lakes
Latvia's Baltic coast stretches for 500 kilometres. Liepāja and Ventspils both have Blue Flag beaches, and at Pāvilosta both harbour piers are open to walkers. At Cape Kolka the Baltic Sea meets the waves of the Gulf of Riga. Saulkrasti lies on the Vidzeme gulf coast, and Riga has three sea beaches of its own. Parts of the coast are stony: between Tūja and Vitrupe the Vidzeme shore is rocky, and at Kaltene the beach is covered with boulders.
Latvia also has more than 3,000 lakes, and for Latvians they belong to summer as much as the sea does: swimming, sunbathing and holidays by the water. Rāzna in Latgale has sandy shores and bays, and Riga has swimming places near the centre and on lakes such as Bābelītis and Ķīšezers.
How we deal with a Latvian loss
Nobody hands you on
One person keeps your case from the first reply to the final report, so every question goes to someone who already knows the story.
A brief built from your day
The detectorist gets what you send us: the map pin, pictures of the shore or park, and the day as you remember it. The search starts at your spot.
Honest about the hard ones
A phone dropped from a rowing boat in the middle of Lake Rāzna is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.
The money question, answered early
We explain the costs before any search is booked.
Our Ring Finder Service Locations in Latvia
From Liepāja's sand to the lakes of Latgale
The first card sends you to the Jūrmala page. Every other beach, park and lake below is covered on this page only, the sea first and then Riga and the lakes.
Beaches, parks and lakes
Majori and the Jūrmala shore
Majori and the rest of Jūrmala are on the Jūrmala page, listed above. If you were anywhere along that stretch of coast, start there.
Liepāja beach and Seaside Park
Liepāja's Blue Flag beach has sparkling white, fine sand. In fair weather it is about 50 to 80 metres wide and about 8 kilometres long, so your position along it is what to establish first. Liepāja's Seaside Park is a wooded park with a playground, a skate park and mini golf. On the beach people sunbathe, swim and look for amber, which washes up with algae and seashells after storms.
Pāvilosta piers and Ziemupe
Both piers at Pāvilosta are open to visitors. The Northern Pier carries on from the new promenade, and the Southern Pier is the longer one, easy to walk with a pushchair. At Ziemupe the seashore is picturesque and always changing, with steep banks not far from the central beach. Say which pier you walked and how far along it you got.
Ventspils beach and Seaside Park
Ventspils has a Blue Flag beach as well as a modern port, and near the sea a wide Seaside Park full of walking paths, including the Anchor trail. The Ostas street promenade looks out over the Venta river. A pin on the sand, a park path or the promenade shows where to begin.
Vakarbuļļi, Daugavgrīva and Vecāķi, Riga
These are Riga's three beaches on the sea. Each has a lifeguard post, changing cabins, a summer café and courts for volleyball and football, which make good landmarks when you drop a pin.
Lucavsala, Ķīpsala and the city swimming places
Close to Riga's centre, people swim at Lucavsala, Lucavsalas līcis and Ķīpsala. Rumbula and Lake Bābelītis are official swimming places too, each with a lifeguard post and changing cabins.
Mežaparks and Lake Ķīšezers
Mežaparks is a green, forested part of Riga and a big recreation park. People picnic on the shores of Ķīšezers, sunbathe on Mežaparks Beach and swim in the lake, try stand-up paddleboarding, and take children to the playgrounds.
Saulkrasti and the White Dune
At Saulkrasti the White Dune looks out over the sea, the mouth of the Inčupe and a vast beach. The Sunset Trail runs from the dune to the centre of Saulkrasti past wide sandy beach, fore-dunes and the Pēterupe river, so a pin on where you came down to the sand helps.
Rāzna, Usma and Zebrus
Lake Rāzna in Latgale is a large lake with islands, bays and sandy shores, used for swimming, boating and fishing, with guest houses and holiday cottages nearby. Lake Usma in Kurzeme has holiday resorts and campsites on its shores and several swimming areas. At Lake Zebrus in Zemgale the eastern shore is the easiest to reach, with resorts, campsites and swimming areas.

From your message to a search in Latvia
Four steps, and you decide before the third one starts.
What, where and when
Start a WhatsApp chat with the item, the beach, park or lake, and the last time you remember having it.
A pin on the map, then pictures
Put a pin where you sat, walked or went into the water, and add photos of that spot and one of the item, or of it on your hand.
A detectorist for that shore
Once you have agreed, we find a metal detectorist who will make the trip and hand over everything you sent us.
Search day and a plain report
The search goes ahead, and afterwards you hear which ground was worked and what, if anything, came out of it.
Questions about Latvia
I was swimming at Liepāja and my wedding band is gone. Is the beach too long to search?
Not once you narrow it down. The beach is about 8 kilometres long, but in fair weather only about 50 to 80 metres wide, so once you pin where you went in, the ground left to cover is far smaller. Add how deep you waded.
Our car keys went missing on Vecāķi beach during a volleyball game.
Vecāķi has volleyball courts, changing cabins and a lifeguard post, so there are fixed points to mark. Pin the court you played on and the spot where your bags lay, and say whether anyone swam after the game. Those are the first places a detectorist would cover.
I was on a paddleboard on Ķīšezers at Mežaparks and my bracelet has gone.
Start with where you launched, for example Mežaparks Beach, then the route you paddled and the point where you noticed it was gone. If it could also have gone while you were sitting on the beach or at a picnic spot on the shore, mark that too.
I dropped my phone somewhere on a Pāvilosta pier.
Tell us which pier: the Northern Pier, reached from the promenade, or the longer Southern Pier. Then say how far out along it you got, and whether you heard it fall onto stone or into the water.
We rent a cottage on Lake Rāzna and my ring went while I was swimming from the shore.
Rāzna has several bays and sandy shores, so name the bay and pin the exact bit of shore or jetty you swam from. Add your rough distance from the shore and the depth where you were standing. Then we find a metal detectorist willing to travel to Rāzna.
My son's watch went somewhere between the White Dune and the beach at Saulkrasti.
The Sunset Trail runs from the White Dune to the centre of Saulkrasti, past wide sandy beach and fore-dunes. Mark the path you took down to the beach, where you sat, and the part of the trail you walked. A picture from your spot showing the dune or the river mouth lets a detectorist stand in the same place.
My ring went missing at Majori. Is that on this page?
Majori is covered on the Jūrmala page, which you will find in the list of area pages above, and it has more on that shore. Either way, you start with a WhatsApp message, a pin and a few photos.
We lost an earring in our summer house garden, not on a beach.
A garden can be searched as well as a beach. Tell us where the house is, which parts of the garden you were in, and whether anyone has mown or dug there since. A photo of the garden with the spots marked on it is the quickest way to show us.
