We are not a local firm with someone parked by the water. We look for a detectorist who can reach the place you lost it, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor. The first hour, on a lawn or on the sand
Stop walking over the area. On grass or sand, put a marker such as a bag or a water bottle where you think it happened, and photograph it with something fixed in the frame, like a lifeguard stand, a bench or a tree. Send us the photo, a map pin, the time, and what the ring or jewelry is made of.
Then give us the small details a detectorist actually uses. On a lawn: whether it has been mown, raked or watered since, and where the clippings and leaves went. In the water: how deep you were standing and what you lined up with on shore. At a party or a wedding: the two or three spots you stood in, rather than the whole park. If there is a park office or a lifeguard stand, ask there before you leave, because jewelry is often handed in.

Sandy Point State Park
A 786 acre state park on the northwestern shore of the Chesapeake Bay, at the western end of the Bay Bridge, with lifeguards on duty from 10 am to 6 pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day. A band or an Oura ring slips off in the shallows, and an earring drops into dry sand without a sound. Tell us which way you faced coming out of the water.
Patterson Park, Baltimore
The city calls it Baltimore's most intensively used large park. It has ballfields, athletic fields, tennis courts, an ice rink, a boat lake and picnic pavilions, so a band can come off during a game, at a pavilion table or on the open lawns. Name the field or the pavilion and a large park becomes a small patch of grass.
Druid Hill Park, Baltimore
A large city park with the Rawlings Conservatory, a disc golf course, ball fields and the Lakeside Loop Trail around the lake, which reopened on a slightly changed route after the underground tank works. On a loop like that, where you stopped or turned round is worth more than the name of the trail.
The Inner Harbor promenade
The promenade runs along the water on the hard, so anything dropped here lands on paving, in a planter, at the base of a railing or over the edge. On the hard it is a close search by eye and by detector; in the water below it is a diver's job. Photograph the exact bollard, bench or step you were beside.
Quiet Waters Park, Annapolis
A 340 acre Anne Arundel County park between the South River and Harness Creek, with a dog beach and kayak hire. The park hosts weddings, and a ring or an earring often goes missing somewhere between the ceremony, the photographs and the meal. The running order of the day is the most useful thing to send.
Patapsco Valley State Park, near Catonsville
About 16,000 acres along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, with the Avalon area, its swinging bridge and the Cascade Falls Trail. Ground like this is leaf litter, roots and river gravel rather than open lawn, so a searcher needs a short stretch to work along, not a whole valley.

A band on the lawn where you were sitting is a good case. A small stud earring somewhere across a whole park is a harder one. You hear how it looks before anything is arranged, not after.

Sand, tide and turf around Baltimore and Annapolis
A small Chesapeake tide
The Bay tide here is small. NOAA station 8574680 at Baltimore gives a mean range of 1.14 feet (about 35 cm) and 1.66 feet (about 51 cm) between mean higher high water and mean lower low water. At Annapolis, station 8575512 gives 0.97 feet (about 30 cm) and 1.44 feet (about 44 cm). A range this small means low water adds little extra sand to search.
Water temperature through the year
NOAA readings at Annapolis averaged about 38°F (3°C) in January 2025 and about 85°F (29°C) in July 2025. The Baltimore station was still reading about 81°F (27°C) in mid September 2026.
Lawns, gardens and leaves
A ring dropped on grass settles into the thatch near the surface, where the eye misses it and a detector does not. Mowing, raking and shovelling move things a long way, so leave the pile where it is and mark the spot.
Beach sand, park turf and dock water
Dry beach sand at Sandy Point holds a band near the top, and wet sand takes it down a little with each tide. Off a dock the bed is soft and dark, which is why depth is the first thing we ask about.

It is, once you can name the field. I dropped my phone off Annapolis City Dock. Is that the end of it?
It depends where it landed. On the boards, on the edge or in the rocks is one thing; out in the water at Ego Alley is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first. The City of Annapolis says the City Dock Resiliency project runs from 2026 through early 2028 and many slips are closed while the work goes on, so photograph the exact stretch of bulkhead you were on and send it to us.
An earring went missing at a wedding at Quiet Waters Park. Where do we even start?
With the order of the day. My Oura ring came off somewhere on a trail in Patapsco Valley. Is a trail searchable?
A named stretch of trail is, the whole park is not. Patapsco Valley runs to about 16,000 acres along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, so tell us the part you were in: the Avalon area, the swinging bridge, the Cascade Falls Trail. Tell us where you stopped, sat or climbed. An Oura ring has a metal shell and reads on a detector like any other ring.
Mum lost her ring in the garden in Bel Air and the leaves are down. Should we rake first?
Leave the rake and the mower where they are. Raking, mowing and shovelling carry a ring a long way from where it fell, and after that the pile is the place to search rather than the lawn. Mark the patch she was working on, photograph it against something fixed like a fence post, and tell us if anything has already been bagged and where it went.
