Wedding ring lost in Slovenia?

Concrete terraces in Portorož and Bernardin, pebbles at Fiesa, a sandy bay in Izola, grass by the water in Ankaran, and lakes and rivers inland.

Whether a ring lost in Slovenia is worth a search comes down to two things. One is what was under you when it went: a concrete platform in Portorož, the pebbles at Fiesa, the sand at San Simon in Izola or open sea off Cape Madona. The other is how exactly you can pin the spot.

Ring Seekers is a lost ring and jewellery recovery service that works with experienced local metal detectorists to search for a ring, wedding band, watch, keys or phone lost in Slovenia. Tell us what happened and where. We choose an experienced detectorist who knows the beach, lake or riverbank, brief them with your map and photos, and tell you honestly if the odds are poor.

It is for people who live here as much as for visitors: a swim at Žusterna, a weekend at Bohinj, a run in Tivoli Park.

Piran old town in Slovenia on a narrow point in the Adriatic, with red roofs above the sea

Terraces in the towns, cliffs and coves between them

In Piran, Bernardin and parts of Portorož you reach the sea from concrete platforms and terraces, while Portorož Central Beach mixes sand, grass and pebble. At the tip of Piran you step in among the rocks instead. Around Strunjan the shore is natural, with cliffs above beaches such as Moon Bay and Bele Skale, both reached on foot.

The sea off this coast is shallow, which keeps it warm in summer. Cape Madona is the exception: the seabed there goes down to 38 m, the deepest point of the Gulf of Trieste. Inland, people swim at Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj and in the Kolpa.

What you can count on from us

One person, whole case

You write to one person on WhatsApp, and that person sees the case through, from your first question about Izola or Bohinj to the report after the search.

Your account goes with them

The detectorist reads what you wrote and studies your pin and pictures before stepping onto the beach at Izola or the shore at Bohinj.

Thin chances, said early

Some losses give a searcher very little: a ring gone over deep water off Cape Madona, say, or a swim nobody can place on a map. When yours is one of those, we tell you before anything is booked.

Have these ready

The town or lake, the beach or bathing area, a map pin, and a photo of the item or one like it. If you remember roughly what time it was, add that.

Money talked about first

We explain the costs before any search is booked, in the same chat as everything else.

Our Ring Finder Service Locations in Slovenia

Ankaran to Lucija on the coast, then Bled, Bohinj, Ljubljana and the Kolpa

All of Slovenia is on this one page: six coast cards from Ankaran to Lucija, then three inland.

Coast first, then inland

Ankaran, Debeli Rtič and Valdoltra

Every beach on the Ankaran peninsula has a bar, with quieter pebbly and rocky stretches between them. Debeli Rtič is one of the biggest. Valdoltra has a stone platform for sunbathing and a stage beside the beach for summer concerts, so say if it went during an event there. St Bartholomew's Bay, very close to the border, is a natural grass beach.

Koper and Žusterna

Žusterna is Koper's beach for water sports. Mokra Mačka, the city beach, has shade and playgrounds and draws young families, and the Žusterna seaside park is the quieter, greener choice, with one bay kept for dogs. Tell us which of the three you were at.

Izola and Simon's Bay

Svetilnik, in the heart of Izola, has grass to lie on and small pebbles where you walk into the sea. San Simon, Simon's Bay, is a sandy bay with a volleyball court, a waterslide and kayaks and SUP boards for hire. Towards Koper, the old road is now almost 4 km of shore for walking, cycling and swimming, so a pin matters there more than anywhere.

Strunjan, Moon Bay and Bele Skale

Moon Bay (Mesečev zaliv) is a natural pebble beach in the Strunjan Landscape Park, under a tall flysch cliff. You can only walk there, and there are no facilities. Bele Skale, between Strunjan and Izola, is reached by a forest trail. Strunjan's other beaches lie in a quiet bay with pine shade and wide grassy areas.

Piran, Cape Madona and Fiesa

At the Punta, the tip of Piran, you go into the sea among rocks, and the Riviera beach is rocky shore with concrete platforms. Cape Madona, reached on a walking trail from Piran, has a rich underwater world that snorkellers and divers come for. Fiesa, along the coastal path from Piran, has a shallow sea, a pebbled shore and pine shade.

Portorož, Bernardin and Lucija

Portorož Central Beach runs along the main promenade, with volleyball courts and playgrounds. Between Portorož and Piran, the Bernardin beaches have concrete surfaces and grassy sunbathing areas. The Lucija campsite beach, on the Seča peninsula, is rocky and pebbly, popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers, and a starting point for SUP and kayak trips.

Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj

At Bled, summer swimmers use the designated bathing area on the shore, an enclosed site with two waterslides, a jump board and shade under chestnut trees. Lake Bohinj has two designated bathing areas, at Fužinski zaliv and at Ukanc. Name the lake, the bathing area and roughly where you went in.

Tivoli Park, Ljubljana

Tivoli Park reaches right into the centre of Ljubljana, with well kept paths, a pond and large photographs displayed in the open air. A ring or watch that went on a run or a picnic here is a question of your route, so mark where you stopped.

The Kolpa, Bela krajina

Canoes can be hired almost everywhere along the Kolpa's banks, and SUP boards at many camp sites. There are camp sites near Vinica and Metlika. Tell us the nearest village or camp site and whether you were on the bank or on the water.

Questions about Slovenia

My wedding band slipped off while I was snorkelling off Cape Madona. Is the sea there too deep?

It depends how far out you were. The seabed off the cape goes down to 38 m, the deepest point of the Gulf of Trieste. If the band went close to where you got in or out, send a pin on that rock and a photo of the band. If it went over deep water well away from the shore, that is a long shot, and you would hear that from us first.

By the cliff and the path. Moon Bay is a pebble beach under a cliff in the Strunjan Landscape Park, reached only on foot, with no facilities to use as a marker. Drop a pin where you sat and tell us whether you swam.

Both, until one can be ruled out. Žusterna beach is where people go for water sports, and the seaside park next to it is greener and quieter, with one bay kept for dogs. Mark both places on the map and add a picture of the keys.

A pin on the court, first. San Simon is a sandy bay with a volleyball court, a waterslide and boards and boats for hire, so a searcher needs to know which of those you were at. Add a photo of the other earring if you still have it.

Yes. The beach has sandy, grassy and pebble areas along the main promenade, so knowing your part narrows the ground. Tell us which part your towel was on, whether you went into the sea from there, and send a picture of the bracelet and its clasp.

It does. Those are the lake's two designated bathing areas, and we cover the rest of the shore as well. Say which one you were at, roughly how far out you swam, and what went missing.

With the stretch of river. The Kolpa begins as a mountain torrent and becomes a slow river lower down, so the upper and lower reaches are very different places to search. Give us the nearest village or camp site and a pin as close to the spill as you can.

Slovenia

Sea, lake or river, it starts with a pin

Send us a WhatsApp message with a map pin where you were and a line about what went missing, whether that was on the rocks at Piran or the bank of the Kolpa. We take it from there.
