Gold ring found in the sea at Castelldefels the same evening it was lost
A gold ring came off in about a metre of water at Castelldefels, south of Barcelona, at two in the afternoon. The owner messaged us within half an hour, and it was found that evening.

The ring came off in the sea at Castelldefels at about two in the afternoon on 10 July. The water was roughly a metre deep. The owner was on holiday, with about a week left before going home.
At 2.27pm, less than half an hour later, a message came in through the WhatsApp button on our website. Soon after our first reply the owner told us the thing that makes a sea search work. They knew the spot to within about ten metres by ten metres, maybe less.
A gold ring that slips off in a metre of water does not travel far. It drops more or less straight down and settles into the sand, and on a gently shelving beach with almost no tide it stays close to where it went in. The job is to stand on the right patch of seabed, not to search the whole beach.
At 3pm the owner asked whether anyone could come that day. By quarter past four our local detectorist had all the details, and half an hour later the owner sent a map pin for where to meet. Castelldefels is several kilometres of straight sand that looks much the same all the way along, so that pin mattered.
At 8.20pm the message came in that the ring had been found, with a very warm thank you. About six hours from the ring leaving the finger to it being found.
Two things made it work, and the owner did both. They got in touch within half an hour, and they could place the spot.
